Turn off your PCs and look see on the router if the wifi light flickers. If yes, they are stealing your bandwidth.

Connect 1 PC, sign on to the router, look how many wifi connections there are. If >1 (or =1 and you are on wired connection) then yes, they are stealing your bandwidth

Look at the traffic on your router - how much upload and download. Leave unused (by you) for a day and see if it changes.

Or don;t bother doing any of that, just turn on security on the wifi connection and you'll get rid of most (all) of the bandwidth thieves.

Go to your Router Configuration and enable WPA encryption. If anyone was stealing bandwidth before, they won't be able to do it again.

Read your router user manual for the Step by Step.

Hackers are smart to be detected... even if you can see only one MAC address in use actually the hacker can mimic your MAC and IP address to gain control over your connection.

Do two things to prevent it...
1) Disable the SSID broadcast at the AP... also you can change the SSID fortnight basis...
2) Enable WEP (longest key possible at the AP) or WPA encryption, WPA is better than WEP.

set encryption in your WI-Fi.. unless the user has a decrypt key he/she will not be able to use your bandwidth... alternatively you can also set Mac id restrictions using your router..
