When people produce a mist with their breath, it is because warm, moist air from their lungs is coming in contact with coldr, drier air. However, in the winter people are usually wearing several layers of clothing over their anuses, so the gas will be diffused and will lose some of its moisture before contacting the cold air.

What you are seeing from your breath is heated air, it just then formed a small cloud., then when it cools to the outside temperature, it evaporates. As far as passing gas, it is the same except for one thing, that gas is methane gas, I doubt you get mist when that comes out.
