why do we put a piece of metal on a dead persons stomach my mum says its so they stimach doesnt blow up is this true

If someone died while sitting up (like in a chair), their body is probably stuck in the sitting position, since the body becomes rigid and stiff after death. Perhaps you mother saw a body with a bar attached to it to make the body lay flat.

it has some thing to do with keeping the internal gasses that build up, from making the cadaver from sitting up.
