I ask this because there has been a number of things recently whereby people are more concerned about the minority than the majority. For example, a school banned kids from making mothers day cards, because some kids didn't have a mother. Christmas activities not allowed because non-christians would be offended.

People have different opinions, different circumstances etc but shouldn't we be able to accept that everyone is different ? Kids who don't have a mother need to develop thick skin because they will never have a mother. They can make a card for another special female in their life, maybe a grandma or an auntie.

Christians / Non-christians should respect the beliefs of each others and allow them to celebrate things they believe are special. As with Hindus, Muslims etc

Be sensitive to others beliefs, opinions and circumstances but I think the minority should not be at the expense of the majority.

Dee - i am not specifically blaming any particular group, especially not muslims. Note: I have used three examples of christians, hindus & muslims. You seem to be the one that is hung up on the actions of muslims!!!

Maryblue - There is no blame attached. It is a simple fact of life if a child does not have a mother and they need to deal with that. It will be a long hard life if they cannot learn to deal with it.

Britain is so compartilised.

Everything in a box or we'll get confused.

I so hate this 'minority' 'majority' talk. I was under the impression we were all part of the same human race.

Newsflash!

You'll get pedantic people across all walks of life. Any sane thinking person would NOT think that the mother's day thing is fine. But ENOUGH did to be able to put it into force.

But who are those people?

They are the ones you should be questioning.

Not blaming EVERY motherless child.

But that is the first thing you did. Doesn't it say a lot about you? And isn't that how 'misunderstandings' occur?

**EDIT Tallpedro if there is no blame then I don't understand your question. Aren't you saying that the min. should fall in line with the maj.? And by saying the motherless children should get use to their situation, you're saying all motherless children are basically saying to everyone else they should not make mother day cards?

What I'm saying is the people who made up that rule in that particular situation are the ones you should be questioning.

Not every motherless child cares that much.

*One thing for sure you have to overstand that just because some poeple are boxed into this 'minority' category it doesn't mean they have no point of view or that their views are not valid. The so called 'majority' are not always right.

Its exactly as you have said miniority should be humble and so should the majority though. no one should ever be mocked for there beliefs but there beliefs whether they are the majority or the miniority should not be forced on anyone for that is wrong even if the idea is freedom. except in the case of the girl with the hood(the muslim hat thing for women) in school the rules are rules religiousness does not exclude you from the rules. No hats in school not teachers or students if they let her where the hat its going to bring up the argument oh well she does it why can't I then jealousy will insue because some like wearing hats for non religous reasons. and well that will cause disorder. so its simple the rule was made for that very purpose no hats simple means anything that covers your head and allows you to hide your face it shows disrespect to the teacher if you have your face covered. you need to be able to look someone in the face to see if they are mocking you or sleeping or lieing or to see that they are paying attention if you let one person break the rules others will follow and what was the point of making rules to begin with might as well just through the rules out the window at that point.

Personally, I can't wait until caucasians become the minority, because I want to see what special considerations we will get then, as the minority.

I understand what you're saying about Mother's Day Cards and having some sensitivity towards that. Maybe they could celebrate a "Family Day," instead, where they could honor a special family member.

In regards to religion, and how it has impacted religious holiday celebrations here, school districts have moved away from promoting any one particular religion or religious holiday. It's no longer "Christmas Break," it has become "Winter Break." It's not "Easter Break," it has become "Spring Break."

stop blaming all minority group because of the actions of the Muslims.

they have made life extremely difficult for any immigrant now regardless of creed and religion. most immigrants Hindu, christian, sikh etc do NOT despise this country and are NOT a burden on the state.

edit
you missed my point. Christians and Hindus DO allow others to celebrate their beliefs. That is why Muslims flock to live in India and the West. All this "insensitivity" surrounds the Muslim faith.

It sounds as though you are talking about general minority versus majority issues, not necessarily ethnic minorities versus the indigenous British majority, right? I say this because i dont see why having Mother's day would particularly offend ethnic minorities anyway since we all have mothers!

I totally agree - those in the minority should learn to accept the majority has the right to enjoy the customs important to them as long as they do not denegrate others. SImilarly the majority should also learn to respect the customs celebrated by the minority, as long as they do not denegrate the majority. Why shouldnt people be allowed to celebrate Christmas for goodness sake!!

It's a sad fact that the majority is the ignorant horde.

To hold a belief sacrosanct is foolish in the extreme. Question everything and learn from everything, or you're making someone Else's mistakes.

Secularism is the only way forward for government. It should be across the board to avoid claims such as this.

yes the minority rules this country. The could do anything they want and get anything they want changed with one word. Racism. It is all they have to say and everything stops for them. They didn't get the job b/c of racism the next day they have it. They didn't get served fast enough because of racism they eat for free. It is ridiculous and will never change.

Political correctness seems to defer the obvious and make it painful for everyone. Shame people cannot cut through spin and ridiculous behaviour and just be consistent with everyone.

yes, if your parents are able bodied and married. you are a white straight physically able male of british origin then you are an endangered species now. You are also opinion less and dare not speak out against anyone for fear of being accused of one of the 'ists'.
