30 ml per 800 = ??ml per 500
30/800 x 500 = 18.75ml per 500ml of water

Use this formula:
x/500=30/800
cross multiply so that x*800=30*500 or
800x=15000 then you need to divide both sides by 800 to figure out the value of x
800x/800=15000/800
x=18.75
18.75 ml into 500 ml of water will give you the same ratio of 30 parts per 800

When you mix a ratio of 30ml with 800ml, the ratio is 30:800.
Let x be the new volume of solution and you get
30:800=x:500
30/800=x/500
800x=15000
x =18.75ml

Is the question this way:
x ml of solution is to be mixed to 500-x ml to get 500ml of water. the ratio then comes to (500-x)/x
This is to be kept equal to 800/30
(500-x)/x = 800/30
500-x=800x/30
15000-30x = 800x
15000=830x
x=15000/830
=18.07 ml.

OR:
x ml of solution is to be mixed to get 500ml of water. the ratio then comes to (500)/x
This is to be kept equal to 800/30
500/x = 800/30
500=800x/30
15000 = 800x
x=15000/800
=18.75 ml.

the dilution is 30/800= 3/80

if youwant only 500ml , you must mix 3*500/80 =19.75ml and complete to 500ml

30/800 = x/500
(30/800)(500) = x
x=18.75
