I was sceptic myself, but had heard enough from several people to give it a try. I spoke with Toni from Angel Hands Ranch.
All I gave her was the name of each horse. She was able to tell me things about their past, which matched with things I knew. For example, she said that, "Patti is telling me there is something wrong with her right eye. It is not a big deal, but it is bothering her and for you to keep an eye on it." Patti had in fact been weeping out of her right eye for about 5 days. I had not told anyone that as it was not a big deal.
Also, she knew that Shadow was cinchy. She said that at some point, she thinks in a trailer, she broke 2 ribs on her right side. She told me where to go to find it. That night I went out to the pasture, located the spot and pushed 2 fingers into it. She came unglued. You'd have thought I shot the mare!!! Shocked me.
We did 4 horses at that time. Mostly dealing with physical things.
She said that horses live in the present. When communicating with them, they will tell you what is happening currently, and she can ask them about the past.
Everything she said was not 100%, but it was probably 85%. The error occured on things that had not happened yet. I had a stud for sale and she said he would find a new show home by October. Well, I did not get him sold until the following July, although he did go to a great show home where he will be used.
She also said that my 15 yr old retired barrel mare Patti, wanted to run. She did not know that I had barrel horses. She said, "This mare loves to run. Why aren't you running her? She doesn't understand what she did that has resorted her to sitting in the pasture. She wants to run for a few more years and THEN she will give you the foal that you want." Patti had at that time had 4 foals, but none of them were THE ONE, her replacement. So, I pulled her out of pasture that weekend, with foal on her side and went running. We ran all that year and won EVERY SINGLE THING we went to. We ran on and off the next year and still won everything we went to. Last fall I was forced to face the fact that it was time to retire her again as she has the start of navicular and her hocks are fusing together at the central joint. On the positive note, I found the stud I've been looking for! The one that says "OH yeah, that's the one I'm breeding Patti to." I bred her this spring, so keep your fingers crossed for me.
So that's my story with the Psychic. It was worth it to me to find out about their pasts. Lingering questions were answered.

Animal communicator, not psychic... Actually, I have had a very positive experience, they were spot on. I bought an older, starved horse (rescue) and after he started coming back physically, he started really beating up another gelding. He would just terrorize him and every day I dreaded seeing what new injury there might be. I tried everything. Finally, in desperation, I contacted an animal communicator in the state of WA by telephone. I explained the details and she conducted her 'interview' with him mentally. She told me he didn't know why he was acting so mean to the other one, he just couldn't help it. And that his 'throat' hurt. And that whatever it was, I was getting a 'sore throat' too. Imagine my surprise when, based on this info, the vet ran a blood test and diagnosed hypothyroidism (the thyroid gland is in the throat, and being hypothyroid can cause severe mood swings and problems). With medication, the behaviors stopped. Imagine my greater surprise when about a year and a half later, I was diagnosed with a thyroid problem. No joke, and yes, feel free to hum the old 'Twilight Zone' theme song. So, I believe that some are very talented and capable. I also think some are quacks because there's a buck to be made. If you are considering using one, get AND CHECK references.

I have used Lidia hibby before she came to a stable where I was working. I did not have a horse at the time so I had her read my dog. It was amazing she knew the exact breed and color of my best friends dog next door and asked why she was not getting to play with her anymore. The other dog had a thyroid disease and slobbered all over my dog and made her smell so I had not been letting them play as much. Also my dog is very unique and everyone always askes what she is mixed with, she told me my dog did not like that people always asked that, she also said she had stomach aches alot because of the food she ate, she was not on a specific diet or one brand of dog food. Everything she said was amazing that she knew and totally correct. I actually did call her a second time for a question I had with the same dog. She was very helpful. Just wanted to share my experience. It was a neat one. I was an unbeliever at first.

i had one lady come to a yard i was working at and we were talking and i didnt know she was and she started telling me stuff about a horse i was with, nothing ground breaking but she was telling me about his character and how sometimes he might do this or that and how sometimes this might be sore and stuff.
she didnt know the horse had never met me or been at the yard before, i helped break and train this horse from a wild 3yrold to a more mature 7yr old when he got sold on so i knew his history.
things she said made sense, i went and asked my boss later if shed been winding me up but she denied it, so either she was a horse psychic, she claimed to be talking to him, or i was reading into things she was saying and making it fit for my horse i dont know, but there are some peopel out there who really can get inside the minds of animals, maybe not psychiclly but through understanding and knowledge. we have a lot to learn and i would neveer knock anything although there are a lot a con artists out there making a quick buck so who knows

I don't totally believe what they are saying, even if it's true. Some people are just very perceptive... but it's highly entertaining and you may learn things about your horse you may not have picked up on. Usually psychics are dang expensive, so don't hire one unless it's a good deal. I do not know of any in MA, sorry.

Do you suppose horse psychics or animal psychics are reading the minds of the person who is there, rather than the animal? If the things the "psychic" states are things that the person present already knows or supposes, then whose mind might they be reading?

Anyone that gets paid for being a "psychic" is a con. Real psychics use their ability to help people and ask for nothing in return.

I've had some very cool experiences with Animal Communicators. At first I contacted them (I've used 3 different ones) only for entertainment value -- it's fun! I was still skeptical about their effectiveness, though. But after awhile the things they said were just too 'spot on' to be ignored.
For example, I went to see one and when she 'communicated' with my horse he 'told' her that his back leg was bothering him. I dismissed this because he NEVER had leg problems. Later that day I went to ride him and he seemed just fine -- until I asked for a canter. He just couldn't do it -- he couldn't push with his back leg. He wasn't lame at the walk or trot, but obviously SOMETHING was wrong! I found out later that he had been found that morning with his hind leg CAUGHT in his blanket straps. Who knows how long he'd been in that unnatural position -- it must have made his muscles sore and weak, which is why he couldn't canter. I had NO IDEA there was anything wrong with him until well AFTER consulting the Animal Communicator.
That made a believer out of me!

This is what I think about any form of psychics. I believe that some people can have "premonitions" (I have small deja vu type ones, and usually don't realize it until after it happens). However, I believe that people who claim to be psychic to make money are just conning their 'customers'. But that's just what I think about it.

Oh boy. I gotta put my two cents' worth in here.
At the barn where I boarded my Arabian some years back, one of the other boarders went to a seminar where "animal communicator"/psychic Lydia Hibby gave a presentation, and she wanted to have Hibby come out to the barn to do "readings" on horses. If we could get a certain number of people to sign up for readings, at something like $50-75 for a half hour, she would come out.
Well, I was curious so I signed up.
As it happens, I have known my Arabian since the day he was foaled. His breeder was my roommate in college, and what I didn't know about my gelding wasn't worth knowing. This is not usually the case for most people who own horses; unless you bred your horse yourself or knew the breeder as a close friend, most people do not know all of a horse's history.
Anyhow, Hibby came out and started doing the readings. I was the fifth person on the list, so I hung around and watched how she worked.
Ms. Hibby does have a good background in horse care and general horsemanship. From this she starts a general patter about the horse, using things she sees. And she uses her general information to "work" the horse's owner from the general to the specific. She would make statements about the horse, and what she was supposedly getting in the way of "communication" from the horse, and would react to feedback from the horse's owner to go from the general to the specific. She would "fish" information from the horse's owner to make statements of her own, most of which were general enough to have some truth to them-- particularly if the owner was craving to hear what Ms. Libby said.
When it was my turn, I let her try to "read" my horse, but I didn't help her. She would make statements, and then look at me for a reaction, and I would just shrug and throw the ball back to her, so to speak.
Most of what she said she got wrong. She initially mistated my horse's breed, correcting herself only when she saw the freeze brand on his neck. She made claims about his upbringing that were in error, and claims about his prior training that were untrue. There was really nothing to her, when all was said and done.
Now I know people who will swear that Lydia Hibby is nothing short of a saint and savant, but I know from what I saw that while she may believe in herself as a "communicator" and there are certainly people who have a will to believe in her, she gets most of the information which she presents as "animal communication" from responses she elicits from the animal's owner. If the owner will sit quietly and not respond to LIbby's fishing for information, Libby cannot do anything beyond speak in generalities that anyone with a background in horses and horsemanship could do.
My advice: at least as far as Lydia Hibby, save your money. She's a fraud. A well-intentioned, one, perhaps, but also a thoroughly businesslike fraud who has found a heck of a way to wring income out of people.
