My play is about the Battle of Gettysburg. Today is the dress rehearsal. The play premieres tomorrow, so answer and be quick about it! Oh yeah, I already got a small figurine of a Civil War soldier playing a fife. What else to get him?

Forget it. I think I'n going to cancel the play. Nobody knows their lines, the actors are destroying the props, and I am being put under intense stress by the director. All of my work was for nothing. Anyway, thanks for the answers...

Write him a letter telling him how much his support and belief in you is appreciated and that when you hit Broadway he will always get front row seats.
It will be a letter he will keep and reread for years to come.

Will you be there on the opening night? If so ask someone (not the director) if you could come on at the end and give him the present you have and give him some wine or champagne. It may not seem like much but he will appreciate it. If you don't think he would like that you could perhaps get him something along the theme of the play like if it was about dogs (for example!) you could give him a picture of a dog or something. If he likes music (well he is a music director) you could get him a CD or song book by a composer/musician he likes? Hope this helps and good luck with the play (and future writing career)!

Usually a personal hand written thank you note and flowers for opening night. Take cast photos and by closing night have a framed set including a cast photo and a progam. You could include your own version of the Gettysburg address... Change four score and seven years ago to however long ago you wrote the play, etc. Make it personal :-) Then age the paper or just print it on aged looking paper.
