Happiness cannot be reduced to a feeling or an emotion.
Happiness "happens" to us in the fulfillment of the purpose of our nature in accord with virtue. As such, to choose evil, always engenders unhappiness in us, even if it is accompanined by an apparently positive feeling. Also, I don't think that a person is evil on the level of one's ontological nature ( instead, is seems more proper to say that a person commits evil or wicked deeds). Evil is the privation of being, the absence of something good, as long as a person is a person, they are not inherently evil.

I do not agree with your first answerer.
Happiness is good, and according to John Stuart Mill's theory of Utilitarianism it is the POINT of life.
"Utilitarianism is the theory that virtue is based on utilit and that conduct should be directed toward promoting the greatest happiness to the greatest number of people (before death)" -John Stuart Mill
The average person is selfish.
Completely true.
And the fact is that the evil man IS happy because he is selfish.
The man believes Mill's theory but does not go through with it.
The man is selfish so he gives himself happiness.
But believes that the feelings of someone else does not affect him.
Not true.
If the evil man took over the world and captured a innocent citizen with a gun and took that man away from his happiness would the citizen not pull out the gun and kill the evil man?
The evil man is happy.
He is getting what he wants.
But he is not happy when the people around him aren't happy and it rubs off on him because he believes it shouldnt.
confusing yes.
but do you get my point?

I think what it comes down to here is your defintion of evil. I personally don't believe in it per say. But sure, I think that people who do "evil" things can feel happiness, but overall I don't think they're happy because they arent being true to themselves and their real needs. No one who is true to themselves and healthy would want to do anything that would make them "evil."

It is possible to self persuade yourself evil is good for you...
In that case of course an evil thought makes you feel good...
It's unfortunate though, that someone should become such a person, because if one thinks evil, he also becomes prone to evil deeds...and we all know that won't lead him anywhere but
in criminal waters...

'Evil' people never think of themselves as wicked - because we can all justify our behavior. In the daily soap story of our lives, nobody thinks they are playing the villain, do they?

if it makes you feel happy, then you are happy...
happiness is not a thing to confirm from others. it's inside each of us, our own way....

the presumption behind this question is that happiness is a good thing, when, in fact, it is amoral.
