Because someone hates me. I dial wrong numbers all the time because of that.

On a calculater the nr. 1 is left under, on a phone top left.

Take a look at the keyboard of your PC and it all starts making sense. When keyboards where developed they found out that this position of keys was easier to handle with a hand next to or hovering above the keyboard than in the configuration of a telephone.
The calculator is a direct offspring of this configuration.
