It is a shame that people find it easier to point fingers than to examine the facts. Just look at some of the answers here and you can see that some people blindly follow 'talking points' rather than get to the truth of the matter. If they took the time to find out the facts then they would see that neither the Right or the Left have all the answers. No one seems to realize that we need to learn to compromise if we want to make progress. This polarity simply keeps us stagnant and angry.

Because it is the politic of the far right and far left that run this country without regard to wright or wrong. Its all about catering to the whims of the loudest voices. The middle doesn't make the news because we're boring. I've considered asserting myself as a middle of the road extremist and making extreme statements on meritocracy, but have little indication that CNN would beat a path to my door. (nor would I want them to).

I tend to agree with diogenes, as the truth is nearly always somewhere in the middle.
Had a good laugh about Tom T's reference to "middle of the road extremist." Yes it is very hard to get steamed up about about logic and sanity but easy when you are on the loony left or right.

I expect it. On the average(generalization) most posters on here fall in to two categories. As Churchill said,“Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.”
The younger crowd, not having all the experience of life, are idealists. The older crowd, having more life experience tend to be more conservative.
The Left feels and emotes. The right tends to process while thinking with logic. This is why most liberals feel that conservative are a heartless bunch.
This is as it should be. The young should be idealistic. It is through the process trial and error that the young learn and find out what is possible in reality versus what is possible in our minds. Usually they are not the same thing.

But some people are incapable of distinguishing between right and wrong when it comes to politics. They stick dogmatically to a position and no amount of reasoned argument will shift them, will it?

Traditionally the "left" decisions are made from Personal Opinion, emotion and feelings whereas the "right" uses Fact, intellect, experience and reason to make decisions, since the USA is was designed as a Federal Republic, the
" Left / Right " thing makes for a most complex and quite flawed interactional situation at best. I Do agree with you in that we should be focused on what right and wrong are, unfortunately however When Opinion and personal feelings accepted as fact in some areas, we have a difficult time getting anything done right..

If it was that simple... But you are right, the right-left discussions are a remnant of old politics, trying to make us believe they are different and somehow they just follow the trends...

Absolutely spot on, we should 'ALL' take a long hard look at ourselves and think about what we can do to better our lives.
