What if it were your very good friends who had left their kids asleep and gone for a meal, but were checking on them regularly, and then their little girl was abducted? Would you say what dreadful people they were, how they probably did it themselves, how they couldn't care less because they're not falling apart in front of the cameras etc etc. Or would you be supportive of them and help keep their child's name in the media? Just wondering.....

I think everyone is in agreement they should not have left children alone, but they've lost a little girl as a result of their stupid actions and at the end of the day, people can pass judgement on them but this will all be forgotten about in a few weeks, meanwhile they have to live with it for the rest of their lives. I feel for them I really do, whether they did wrong or not, and pray for Madeleines safe return

i don't agree with the mccans leaving there children, but i have supported them the best i Can with my views and received huge amounts of thumbs downs.
i would support my friends if it happened to them ,the mccans made a mistake, everyone makes mistakes, except they lost there child in the process.
if you have a true friend you stand by them no matter what and if it happened to my friend i would stand by them,i would obviously be annoyed they left there children, but slandering them like people are doing to the mccans does not help the situation,
a lot of people are saying there friends would not leave there children ,but how many of these people actually know 100 percent they would not,i have best friends and 99 percent of the time i trust them but i could never put hand on heart and say they would not leave there children, you don't know if a situation comes up here they might have to leave them even for a couple of minuets.
i also pray for madelines return and cant imagine what the parents are going through and my heart goes out to them, and i hope madeline is found .madelines parents are living the worst nightmare anyone could live, there angel missing

I would say they were as thick as pigs to do leave their young children alone. Its called child neglect unless you are middle class and have a PR machine behind you including a barrister.

Also, they DID NOT check them every 30mins - many of the locals noted they were out at the pool side bar drinking with same group EVERY night and no one noticed them doing any checking, just drinking.

They acted stupidly and I don't doubt they are now paying the ultimate price, but they must carry the can for making a dreadful decision that allowed a perv to come and snatch their child and making it far worse by obssessing over covering it up in the mainstream media.

Of course I would be doing all I could to help my friends and support them . However I would also be telling them to hold their hands up and say we was wrong . No excuses but we was wrong and if social services or who ever need to intervene so be it . I believe once they did that the public would have a tad more respect for them.

I would find it hard to believe that any of my good friends would ever leave their child/children alone for that length of time. My friends are very good responsible parents . In fact we all babysit for one another .

My friends would never do it. We've been on holidays before a group of us with six children between us and we all ate together, children included. Once or twice there were birthdays and a wedding anniversary to celebrate and we had a rota, but there was always at least one adult with the children all the time.
What is the point of a family holiday if you choose to exclude the 'family' from activities.

Firstly I would have refused to go out with these friends as I believe what they did was pracically abandoning their children but if it was my friend then yes I would be trying to be supportive but on quite a few occaisions I would of stepped in and said don't take money don't leave the twins etc

Listen if it were my friends I would have voiced my opinion on the night in question, BEFORE anything happened.
I would have said not to do it. Then I would have got the opinion of all our friends, and said in a friendly way - dont do that Gerry.
I would then have set up a little child care rota, where one couple sat on the balcony with all the kids in one room.

After the event I would support my friends of course, but in private, I would still think they were wrong.

Since i don't actually know anyone who leaves their kids alone whilst they go out for a few jollies, your question is irrelevant.

Now Mccann Fan, would you like to talk about the money in Team Mcann PLC?
NO, I thought not.

I'd say it was very irresponsible of them to leave a 4 year old and a pair of twins 2 years old alone in the hotel room without adult supervision. I mean what type of parents does this? gheeze!

Yes I would and I would no longer have anything to do with them.
What Madeline's parents have done is unforgivable and was totally unnecessary. To add to the whole fiasco the fact that they are both doctors is an outrage and an embarrassment to the whole medical profession.
I hope that Madeline is returned to them unharmed and very soon. But if I were Madeline I would NEVER forgive them for the negligence they have shown her and her siblings.

I don't think I would say they were dreadful people, they've just made a terrible mistake and one that has ruined the rest of their lives. Life is full of if only's, and the point here is 'if only they had taken up the (free) services of a childminder'.
