Not only is blood not thicker than water, in certain dysfunctional families, boiling over blood about some mishap that happened eons ago could cause some individuals to draw blood! Ever watch The God Father movies? Well there really are some families very similar!!

Today is my day of Greek sayings!!!
It goes " Blood never turns into water" meaning that family ties , blood ties, are so strong because whatever happens in a family, the blood that unites its members, never turns into water.
Blood is thicker than water.

I never understood how water had anything to do with friendship, but blood is a given
but yeah kool-aid has the best of both worlds, it's as cool looking as blood with out the family

In Australia, beer is thicker than water or blood. We'll kill you if you mess with our family unless you give us a beer first.

blood is thicker than water, the relationship turns loose because when a family member hurts us, it gives us a deeper wound

i guess it depends on the family, how they have bonded and family history.
i am close with my folks but don't live near them or call them regularly. my sis would rather hang with friends than admit i am right. at times i think she works hard to make outsiders into the ideal family.
my bf did not have a close family growing up, but as he gets older he has gotten closer to them and been able to forgive things from the past.
i do think things get better as you get older. you start to realize your parents are not as bad as all that and learn to respect where they were coming from. siblings may be harder to get close to b/c "mom liked me more" or "you always got your way". but to get closer to them you have to realize they will always be family and as you age they may be the only ones you have left.
