I'm watching him...
And forgive me for saying this, but Fred first got my attention as the D.A. on Law & Order. I always wondered what the guy was like in real life, as he had such charisma on screen.
Now, nobody ever said that politics was totally logical and sensible, but you know as well as I that "charisma" has always played a certain part in "electability." JFK had it. FDR had it.
GWB does not have it.
All I'm saying is that if I can see it, you know darn well that someone like Rove (or whoever will be the successor Spin Master) can see it, too.
Bottom line: I could listen to Fred read a phone book. Obviously, that doesn't make him a better presidential candidate.
As I said, I'm watching him...

Not certain a President can do that.
What will prove the socialists wrong will be if AMericans dump them from congress and put Fred or one of the other Americans in office.
Mitt and Rudy are also moderate conservatives. I believe Fred can win, and most likely Rudy can, but with the religious bigots on the dems side I am afraid Mitt will get slaughtered, too bad, really a nice man, wants to do the right thing.
The key is Congress, we have to repudiate Socialism there. COngress writes the laws, steals and spends our money, nothing happens without their approval, they are the greatest danger to AMerica today.
We have to get rid of these anti-americans NOW

You bet I am. And contrary to the first responders answer, Fred worked very hard and was so successful in his home state of TN as a Senator, that we won his second election by a landslide! He made promises to his constituents and kept them.
Don't let anyone kid you folks, the man keeps his word (unlike other politicians we all know). He'll make an excellent leader and gives us more hope for a good future than any candidate running.
To the person who no longer votes and will only vote for Fred, if he smears our Pres. I can hope that Fred proves himself to be above running a smear campaign and believe that he will. I'd rather vote for someone with integrity than someone who runs a campaign on smear tactics.

Well, Locutus, since I am no longer a Republican -- or even a voter for that matter -- no. I could change my mind and register to vote and re-become a Republican if Fred T. were to acknowledge that the case of Bush v. Gore was a fiasco. If Fred says that he was embarrassed at George W. Bush's request for an injunction and far worse than embarrassed at the fact that he was granted that request by the Supreme Dictators, then I'll support him. But I don't think he will.

To suthrnlyts:
I'm not asking Fred to "smear" the President in terms of any of the Prez's policies (that is, what he has done as Prez). I only want Fred to recognize and say that when GWB was still Gov. of Texas and was itching to find out for sure that he had won election 2000, GWB made a BIG mistake by trying to seek an injunction to stop the recounts in Florida. That's the only "smear" I want.

The "utter incompetence" of the Democrats got them a landslide victory in the last election. Fred Thompson's reputation as a Senator was that he did not work very hard... good luck with him getting elected President. I like Fred Thompson as a man because he speaks his mind and says what he means, but not as a candidate because we do not share the same opinions on some matters. It is interesting to note that the Republican Party front runners at this time are NOT very conservative.

This is some kind of "Halloween" joke, isn't it? I mean, the Republicans have run the government (six years in the White House, twelve in the Congress) and the incompetence you're witnessing is a reflection of their conservative policies. How much more evidence do we need?
