Many so called Americans including the ACLU constantly condem and attack our freedoms. I think we should support our government and the system that guarantees it's continuance! What can we do to get people to see what we stand to loose if we continue on our current path to distruction!

America is unique because it survives, in-spite of itself. We are not the oldest or first Democracy. We are the first that demanded introspection at a time when anyone can express an opinion.

America is a consortium of people who either work for their country or themselves or want their country to work for them. I wish we could instill 'mores' of one hundred years ago when our ancestors gave us what we have today.

The ACLU attacks our freedoms? How? In fact, they support giving people even more freedom. Probably too much freedom our current administration would say. And isn't the ability to criticize government at the heart of our freedom? As a democracy, the right to criticize government is essential, right? If we can;t criticize government, then how do we get government to do what is right? Let's take 9-11 for instance. What if George Bush hadn't attacked Afghanistan after 9-11? What if he sat on his hands and did nothing? Would we be wrong to criticize him? Would that criticism have taken away our freedom? I think those who criticize, no matter how irritating you might find them, are the true Americans. Those of us who simply drink the kool-aid and keep quiet are the ones who are allowing freedom to walk out the door.

In case you haven't got a clue, which seems to be the case with you! The current government is the one that is continually stripping away all of our freedoms! They continue to carry out surveillance without the courts permission. They continue to imprison people on unfounded suspicions with no legal recourse afforded these people. They continue to torture in the name of justice! This administration only guarantees more loss of freedom and more destruction in more wars. George is hell bent on attacking IRAN and his republican cohorts in the House and Senate are more than happy to feed his demands!

Well its a case by case issue. I don't know what you're specifically talking about but I know that the US government is as corrupt as any other, and we need to keep it in check. When any other government of the world makes foolish decisions it is normally only their own people who suffer. When the USA makes a foolish decision, the whole world usually suffers. I think we shouldn't just codemn those who critisize the US government because they are protesting, in fact it is the basis of opposing corrupt regimes. Where would we be if our forefathers hadn't done the same?

I agree however you actually are contradicting what you are saying because you want to shut down ACLU who has free speech and are free to do what they wish . Granted ACLU does odd things but after all they are protecting the rule of law personally I think they need rules so they don't overstep there bounds , I also don't believe they should be shut down at this time in history .

So you can't enjoy your freedoms unless you blindly follow the government? Even when that very government is taking away those said freedoms? Sorry but the 'sheep' mentality you propose is exactly what we need to guard against. To blindly follow a government that blatantly and knowing violates international law and basic human dignity only lowers and demeans our freedoms.

"Patriotism is supporting your country all of the time, and supporting your governmet when it deserves t"
--Mark Twain

Equating criticism of the government with not supporting our country is a flatly UNAMERICAN idea. And it is only the enemies of freedom that hate groups like the ACLU. When you get past their rhetoric, you'll find--ALWAYS--that the "rights" they say the ACLU attacks are not rights at all, but rater their desire to discriminate, abuse, or otherwise take away the rights of others.

Such people are not "defenders" of freedom or of America--they are our worst enemies.

It is freedom that allows us to condemn our country and government. We are just exercising our rights. If you want to talk about attacking our freedoms, look at the Patriot Act. That is government legislation that limits our freedoms, now that, is the real problem.
