Shows how much you know.
Fred Thompson (I assume that is who you are speaking of) was a politician BEFORE he was an actor. So if you would like to get technical on the issue, he was a politician that became an actor.
And I noticed that you feel the voters don't have the right to complain - WRONG! The whole purpose of voting is so you can voice your displeasure/support for the person in office. I have never "complained" about the one I voted for. Did I agree with everything they did? No. But you are right in that sense - I put them there. But if the one I didn't vote for gets in and then sucks, I can express my displeasure. THAT is my right as a voter.
How is it you feel that if you don't speak up by voting, you have the right to complain about how things are going? You honestly think that if you didn't see a movie, you have the right to state if it sucks or not? Same sort of thing. You vote - you have done all you can to assure that your voice was heard, and your opinions were voiced. You don't vote - might as well just sit down and shut up. Because that, in a sense, is what you did. You didn't speak up, and you didn't do all you could to assure your opinion was put into the pot.
So if you don't plan on voting in this upcoming election - that is your choice, and you have a right to it. But don't come on here or anywhere else and tell everyone how awful the candidates are. Because by not voting, you are choosing to REMAIN SILENT in affairs of the government and the runnings of your city, state, and federal governments. So basically -
YOUR OPINION DON'T MEAN SQUAT!
You don't like the Dems or Reps, then vote Independent! They also have this spot on the ballot where you can write in your choice - USE IT! Maybe you are the only one that votes for the person, but it is there! My Aunt would vote and write in my grandfather's name for President every year. She did this because she didn't like who was running. And in the local paper every year of a presidental election, there would be one vote for my grandfather. She voted, and she expressed her opinion. That was her right, and she did it. So do yours and don't think that not voting makes you intellectually superior to those that do. Because all it does is make you look like a moron - not expressing an opinion, but griping about the ones that were. THAT is really STUPID.

1. You don't get to complain if you don't vote. You get to complain if you do, because the person you elected isn't representing you how you wish to be represented, which is their job.
2. If you don't like any of the candidates and aren't voting because of it, at least you are truly aware of all of their policies and viewpoints.
3. If you don't like any of the candidates, you should still vote. Vote for the person who you feel will represent you best, or use the write-in option - heck, you can even vote for yourself.
4. If you don't like any of the candidates, find one you do like and stick by their side. Search out a candidate. Campaign for them. Raise money for them. If you are unhappy with politicians, do something about it.
5. If you are referring to Fred Thompson, we'll have to see. I'm not informed on his beliefs and viewpoints, but from what I hear, he's a fairly competent individual with valuable experience.
6. We'll see what happens in the future, but in the meantime, you could try being a little more optimistic about the future and our governmental machine. You'll at least be a happier person.

If you are speaking of Fred Thompson, he will be almost as good a candidate as Ronald Reagan was! Which means he will probably be the best candidate we could have!
If you do decide not to vote, then you throw away your rights as an American, especially your right to complain about the election or whoever gets in!
It might be that, because people like you didn't vote, that we were saddled with a bad egg like Clinton for 8 years, and why we are still recovering from his fiasco!

What we need most in this country is a middle class average joe to run the country. He knows what its like to be the poor guys cause he's probably been there, and knows what its like to have some financial success since he's in the middle (had some moments of both struggling and getting ahead). We need a person who doesn't just say "well i am pro choice" just because his party says he has to feel that way to be in his party.A person who tells you where he stands on every issue based on how he truly feels about it.
A person born with a silver spoon in their mouth as most politicians are can't really relate to the average americans life and what their needs are.Democrats and Republicans alike sound like used car salesman when they make speeches.Though alot of people know they are all full of BS they would never vote for a nromal person to relate to them cause Americans fear change. Its been a two party system for decades and Americans pretty much feel they have to choose one or the other cause voting for some Independant will just be a wasted vote (and they are right cause everyone fears taking a risk and trying something totally different).
We will never see that day because while we pretend to be the land of democracy the two major parties make sure there are no other players.Since Ross Perot many independents have tried to get an invite to the televised debates to no avail. Many states don't even allow the Independants get on their ballots in presidential elections.Independants are denied equal shares of campaign funds to try to compete. Its all a facade this right to choose who we want.Sure you can choose who you want but the powers that be ensure that the choice is going to be Democrat or Republican when it comes to the presidency.I don't think we'll ever see another Independant become president for the rest of America's existence. We have become puppets who just let the government pull our strings.Thats the only explanation for how we could have voted an incompetent fool like Bush into office and then re-elected him after we knew about all the lies for the Iraq war. When people walk into the polls on election day its similar to when pigs walk into the slaughterhouse.Bush is the worst president in the history of the US.All conservatives will defend him but every single country in the world believes Bush is the worst US president ever, even our allies. Its time to drop the arrogance and realize that we are not right and the whole rest of the world crazy.Sometimes Americans make stupid decisions, but we have too much pride to admit we made a dumb mistake so instead we go on the defensive and re-elect the moron cause we just have to be right and not accept we made a bad choice.
If we don't make some changes willingly we will be forced to at some point. Every "superpower" who has become arrogant and bullied the rest of the world into complying with them has seen their empire crumble. At some point the world will have it with us and form a coalition to invade the US.Seems impossible right? they would never dare right? The Romans used to think similar, that no one could stop them.As did many empires before and after them.Every one has fallen and we will to.Maybe not in my lifetime, but its inevitable staying on this path will lead to our eventual fall.

As a man, I like Fred Thompson. As a candidate I don't. To say there is no difference between the two parties is at best inaccurate. Republicans tend to favor the interests of big business, Democrats tend to at least look like they are standing up for the so-called "little guy" and the environment. They are NOT the same. If you don't want to vote that is your choice, but if you don't vote we could have a government that you can't stand for 4 more years. Better a bad choice than a worse choice.

I don't mean to sound flippant, but the greatest President in living memory was an actor, Ronald Reagan. In the words of Margaret Thatcher, Reagan "won the Cold War without firing a shot".
It was from his acting experience that he was able to go head to head with the leader of the USSR, who was determined to get concessions from the U.S. to keep their economy afloat. Reagan once commented that his experience negotiating with SAG (Screen Actor's Guild), who were the toughest, most tight-fisted negotiators on the planet in his estimation, prepared him for negotiating with the Soviets. Gorbachev was hopelessly outmatched.
Now, you are understandably fed up with having to choose between bad or mediocre candidates, right? Well, the reason that a better caliber of people refuse to run is that the press will expose everyone's personal life to such withering scrutiny that only people with the most bland lives could escape without being cut to shreds.
What we need to do is find a way to punish the press for denying us better candidates. Imagine if, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the press had treated JFK the way they did Clinton. JFK was barely able to bear the pressure of that conflict. If he had to contend with press reports about his trysts with Marilyn Monroe, that episode in history could have ended in catastrophe. In short, the press has to restrain itself, and we as consumers and voters have to be mature enough to stop buying their sensationalist stories.
Clinton has been accused of not doing more to combat terrorism. What about the HUNDREDS of hours he had to waste defending himself from the vicious press? What do you think was the mental toll? Don't you think he was, to put it mildly, a bit distracted sometimes? The press is impairing the ability of a Presiden to do his sworn duty, and is preventing good candidates from coming forward.
Either the Democrats or Republicans could produce good candidates if it weren't for the slimy press. Perhaps we should have a national petition, strongly urging them to stop giving us tabloid headlines, and to stick to the real news.

If politicians know that only a small percentage of the population is going to vote they will suck up to them and you will lose out. What really throws them is to know that everybody is going to vote and that the vast majority of them have no real political allegiance and though they might vote for them this time, next time they will kick them in the a#s.
That is why you should vote.

Yes because we pay more attention to what the candidates look like , the way they dress and who they are married to than how they stand on issues or their experience. They after they elect them people cry about what the person they voted for is doing.
