I live in an old house and evrytime we flush the toilets they make hell of a noise. The landlord came twice but I doesn't seem to bother him.The problem is that our neighbourgh who live downstairs hears eveything.
Any idea of where it comes from ? is it because there not enough water running in the pipes?

We have the same thing...old house and we hear water flushing. There is not much you can do and it really should not be a problem unless it is near someone's ear when they sleep.

However, if you just don't want people to know when you flush the toilet you could wrap insulation around the pipes to deaden the noise (if the pipes are accessible).

The reason you hear it is that plumbing was not installed WITH the house and other accommodations were made that do not provide much noise deadening (such as built into a wall, wall insulation).

I would guess that the pipes are PVC. This is used in most new home construction because it is a good product and lasts a long time. It is noisy though. Older homes had cast iron whick was a thick, dense material that absorbed noise. Toilets are usually connected to the main drain/vent lines and the walls are barely wider than the pipe. This prevents much insulation from being installed to lessen the noise.

noise, gurgles anything else. is because of poor pipe ventilations. add vent pipes.
