Why do we have to have a label? Do we not want the same thing? If we have a different approach that's because we have different outlook. Doesn't mean we can't find resolution. Wouldn't it be better to work together than to hide behind labels?

The voice of moderation has been silenced in the US. People can not see beyond their own issues anymore. It's a blame it them society where the other side is always to blame. Until we are on the brink of killing one another or poverty is so rampant I don't think things will change. I consider myself a moderate. Although I have passion for issues on both sides of the table. I am for gay rights, fiscal responsibility, no amnesty for illegals, pro-choice, pro national ID card, love guns, but against assault weapons... So I am all over the place. Conservatives think I'm a liberal, Liberals think I am a conservative.

The label is a heuristic or shortcut. Labels are symbols. It conveys much meaning in a single word. A well defined symbol such as the word "conservative" conjurs many of the beliefs I have already formed thus freeing me to think on new topics. The word "liberal" doe the same things for me.

For instance, a man says, 'I am conservative viewpoint because I am a Christian."

The words conservative and Christian both quickly clue me in to tht fact that the person I am speaking to is of extremely low intelligence and rarely has orginal thoughts. I know this person would prefer to be told how to believe rather than learn and make decisions on what to believe.

Now as another example, "I became a liberal in my early twenties."

Now again, I hear the label. This time I consider the person and I can make a fairly accurate conclusion like.....This person has attended college and likely has a degree.

Do you see how useful that is? I don't have to waste my time with nearly as many stupid people now that I have attached a few beliefs to a single word. Will I occasionally come across an intelligent conservative and miss an opportunity to get to know him/her? Sure, but the odds are weighted greatly in my favor by taking this shortcut. After a lifetime of utilizing labels I will have saved countless hours that could have been spent discerning worthiness and will rather have more time available to spend these hours with someone who can think for themselves.

P.S. I use other labels to quickly dispose of the morronic liberals I encounter. I am not so foolish.

In a perfect world, there would be no labels. In a real world, the labels help provide structure to society and to government. A person can be liberal and still believe that some conservative traits are better than liberal traits (and vice versa). That's why there are many shades of liberals and conservatives, as well as moderates. In the end, the government works together as best as possible, and everyone else just crosses their fingers that our representatives don't mess the world up.

Well...I agree with you completely, even though I am a Conservative thinker on most issue's. That is not to say that I agree with everything they say. I would imagine this to be true with alot of Liberal's also! But again...you need to ask how the "Votership" would identify with what Party they wish to support? How can you identify, without some kind of distinguishing Label? For alot of people...it boils down to whether they are voting for the Party,Person Running or the Leader! I suppose you could write the Ballot to read Hillary Clinton or Rudolph Guiliani, and that is okay for the Top Level representative! But what distinguishes the wish of the Votership at a lower level? (ie) State,Province,Region etc. By what guidelines would you be able to identify your candidate-without a title. Bearing in mind also that the U.S. Presidency is based on the number of States that are won by the respective Party's candidates! But I do find your Question is an interesting Concept,I wouldn't know how you could apply it however?

I prefer patriot, one who supports our constitution, which is what our jobs as citizens is.

I like labels too, they seem to make it easier, I am a liberal capitalist, fits me to a T.

Listen the argument today is simply between AMerica being taken over by the Socialists or remaining a Free country based on capitalism, all of the other stuff is smoke and mirrors.

If all of the Socialists in Congress were to be honest and tomorrow quit the Dems and tell AMericans they are Socialists, they would be voted out of office in a heartbeat.

AMerica rejects socialism in all of its evil forms.

SO the resolution for me is the socialists step forward and tell AMericans who they are, until then I will spend most of my time outing them.

Life would be one shade of grey if we were all the same.
And no we don't all want the same thing that's why we are labeled.
I have very few views in common with Liberals.

Reality check needed !!!

go visit a city near you , or if you live in one then open your eyes .
How could we be all the same without repressing anyone?
smells Marxist to me and its worrying me that Uk is already heading that way with "New Labour"

Venting against labels is simply avoiding all the issues. Soon enough you'll want us to stop arguing and debating because we're being mean to each other.
Not all opinions are valid, not all labels are inaccurate.

No.

There will never be any resolution between those with sense who are influenced by good and those who are insane, and influenced by evil.

Liberals are the latter, and they're dangerous beyond belief. It's not simply a matter of people having "different outlooks."

I agree, the only thing labels do is to divide. You can see how divided we are just by reading this category.

United we stand.
Divided we fall.

it would be better if we could work together. but we can't. come election time every one wants to lean toward the middle trying to please all the voters and it p*sses me off. if you are going to stand for something, stand for it don't keep saying what you think we want to hear. we can not accomplish any thing that way.
