I have windows XP and get a blue screen error message with something to the effect of:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode...press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

-------------
It gave some number.. but i never was able to catch the entire number.... this screen came several dozen times within the week... am clueless what started it! I havent added any new hardware or software recently.

BEFORE the blue screen came i used to get annoying pop-ups (and still do) saying to download some important software to protect my computer and what not... i didnt since it really didnt seem all that legit.

Another thing is sometimes i get a windows explorer error message i dunno if that's related..

And lastly i keep getting redirected time to time to broadcaster.com and a page for Win AntiVirus Pro 2007. If i dont get redirected they open in new windows.

i scaned for viruses using AVG and found 2 or 3... nothing major though.. and checked for spyware.. and removed them...

By the way i dont have the windows XP Installation CD.. so reinstalling windows not an option.
sooo question is how on earth do i stop this blue screen? :P
(sorry that was long just had to give details)

I found this link for your 'Blue screen of death'

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/w2000Msgs/6093.mspx?mfr=true

You may want to turn off the automatic system shutdown option that is now the default setting.
Click on Control Panel
Right click on System and select properties.
Click on the Advanced tab.
There should be a button marked settings by restart and recovery. Click on this.
You should now have a tick box that is ticked to restart the computer in the event of an error. Untick this box and then click the OK button until all the windows have closed.

You should now use the event viewer that is in control panel/Administrative tools to find out what errors have occurred on your computer.

For your pop-ups I have found this link
http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/docs/messagepopup/
This is the Microsoft version
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/learnmore/stopspam.mspx
If these are not the sort of pop-ups that you are getting then you have probably downloaded some adware software. This software is often shipped with MSN messenger among others.
Use this link for the free home addition of Ad Aware

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

This is NOT a physical thing wrnog with hardware on your puter. It is SOFTWARE. An application is writing to memory reserved for something else. Antivirus programs are like the cops, they dont prevent every crime, they cant solve every crime, but they do most. But also can you imaginge if we had no cops?

Youve obviously been infected. There is certainly deeper infection. You might try another scan IN SAFE MODE. Most viruses are no longer spread through email, they're mostly spread through P2p aps now. Back up your data. Do NOT save any music, photo or video you got through limewire, bearshare or thir ilk. Viruses can change their own "form" and can evade antivirus software. Then do an operating system reinstall. You said you dont have he cd, most mfgrs will give you a new cd for free. It is ted to their brand so MS doesn't care. Just ask for a new one. We give them out, even when a cust is out of warranty

You may want to try and update your windows patch by going to Windows Updates. It is important to do that as certain patch prevented the blue screen to appear.

If the patch is installed and the screen is not going away, you may need to check your RAM and see whether it is plugged in correctly.

If even plug out the RAM and plugging it back in does not do the trick, then the only way is to reinstall your XP and see whether it is able to resolve it.

If even with reinstalling XP fails to resolve it, then you may be looking at a faulty hardware. It may be a sign and time that you need to replace your PC.

Hope that helps =)

ok...well the popular blue screen of death..it is caused normally when a program had encountered a serious error and unfortunately also corrupts your system properties like in windows..for those things like this the only thing that i can suggest is to reinstall the os..files wont be deleted but if the cause of this one is by a virus or spyware infection, even if you do this it will be the same problem...for those who suggest to download something it not advisable(how the hell can the customer download a file when her computer is really wrecked up?!)

Only thing I can suggest is to go into the Bios and load the default settings (reset it). Check that the CD-drive is the first boot device. You will really need to boot from a CD/DVD before you can fix it.

You didn't say how you checked for spyware. The best program is Spybot Search and Destroy from http://www.spybot.info Download it, update it, immunise and finally do a scan.
