if a graphics card asks for PCI Express x16 slot, can i use it in PCI Express x1 slot? will it affect the performance?

NO you can't, they're different physically and logically.

no u cant PCI x16 slot is bigger than the PCI x1 so u cannot use it in pci x1 slot. moreover u will be damaging the card
u can buy a graphics card for pci x1 slot

You can't substitute a PCI Express X16 graphics card. years ago they made PCI graphics cards but they are more than likely not compatible anymore, and are underpowered by 2 years ago's standard.

Yeah its different... you can clearly see that they are different sizes.
