Well, I think they should rephrase this sentence to something like- " Is it very bad?" sort of thing because in reality I guess this is precisely what they actually mean with all their best intentions...

Its because we tend to feel dopey for being a clutz, and pain makes some people feel instantly vunerable so they lash out. Also, most people need to create an emotional outlet to deal with the pain...and getting mad can feel better than crying!

I'm usually too busy laughing when I hurt myself. I fell in the middle of the living room today and everyone was all like "are you ok??" and I couldn't stop laughing to answer them!

Because in reality you are NOT ok. You are in pain, and when someone asks you if you are OK, it makes you mad because it should be plainly obvious that you are not.
