it probably means he tried to send you a picture or something like that but your phone couldn't display it.
my phone has done that b4 and so has my daughters

Maybe he was trying to type

but he either hit numbers instead of letters
or misdialed, or the line had interference
and sent different letters/numbers than he intended.
Was he trying to send you a phone number to call?
