The third answer has it right - I do not know how she got four "thumbs down"!
Anyway, to answer your question, you need to have a certain number of answers and at least 10% "Best Answers" in a category to be a "Top Contributor". That is how I have more than 35,000 points, but I am still not considered a "Top Contributor".

I wondered the same thing and had a little more than that , but after a few weeks here in polls and surveys asking and answering I finally got one . I had a good percentage but was all over the boards as far as the categories I answered so that's what causes the lack of a contributor badge I found .

Good question. I was a top contributor after 1500 points. I ask a lot of questions in the same category. I have been suspended three times. I would have well over 20,000 points by now. I am not sure how all those things weigh in.

My guess would be that they write a lot of bad answers. You get points for answering questions. If they always wrote bad answers and never were awarded the "Best Answer." I suppose it might be possible to earn so many points without being a top contributor.

Because the more questions you answer, the lower your best answer percentage unless you're getting tons of best answers.
