The number of people involved in a conspiracy is not even nearly as relevant as the consequences of blowing the whistle and the likelihood that those consequences will be effected upon the leaker.
If one person leaking means the death of all the conspirators, and it would in this instance as everyone implicated would hang, then that's a strong deterrent to ANYONE leaking because the other conspirators form a self-enforcing deterrent.
A good analogy is the mafia. The mafia is an organized conspiracy that has existed for over 70 years, and yet very rarely have any mafia conspirators "squealed". Why? Because they know they're very likely dead if they do.
And in the few instances mafia members HAVE leaked, it's been because an equally powerful entity has offered a legitimate probability of protection against otherwise certain death.
But in a 911 plot, who would offer such protection? Obviously not the gov't, as they would be the guilty parties in the first place.

Btw, I'm not arguing here that the US gov't WAS complicit, I'm simply arguing that the "too many people" argument is flawed reasoning.
Critical thinking, that's what I'm advocating that people use in analyzing ANY issue.

Well, it's been documented that the US gov't has thought itself competent enough to attempt to pull off such a conspiracy against its own citizens in the past.
I've posted the Operation Northwoods documentation before. Search it, and you'll see.

Sorry maddog, but the mafia existed for 30 years before the US gov't finally got ONE guy to roll over on them in the 60's. Before the first guy rolled, there was only circumstantial evidence of the conspiracy.
So your statement is unsupported bullshit, but that's to be expected.

The mafia didn't truly start to develop cracks until the 80's, when several high-ranking mafia members such as John Gotti rolled.
So it took a powerful entity like the US gov't almost 50 YEARS to truly break through the mafia barrier.
Imagine how long it would take common citizens to break through the US gov't barrier if a 911 conspiracy had indeed taken place.

Noah, your point is well taken, but there are other forms of complicity besides overt and direct involvement.
Foreknowledge and failure to act to prevent such a crime when one has the duty to do so renders one complicit in the crime, and therefore also just as guilty.
And simple foreknowledge would NOT necessarily require any US connections to the direct actors in the conspiracy, or certainly few enough that those who were connected had an airtight deterrent to any squealing.

You are absolutely correct, and this is an excellent question. I have often wondered myself about the twisted logic expressed in that argument. The argument is lame at best. *sm*

A good point about the probablity of protection, but still and all no plot of that size could stand up to any kind of investigation. For instance, if a thread tying at least one of the 19 hijackers to a gov't official or operative was found, the entire 'plot' would unravel. Hundreds of threads have been connected from each of the 19 hijackers to others...yet zero Americans with ties to the Bush administration. It's just as likely that the 'plot' was formulated by China or Russia or even the Grand Dutchy of Fenwick. Also, who exactly would bump off the conspirators if one of them ratted out the Bush administration? Plus, once the rat ratted the cat would be out of the bag anyway. You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube that easily. Frankly I wouldn't mind if the Bush Junta got caught up in this, but even those guys aren't that evil, not to mention that competent. I'd let this one go!

Consider this; every time a major event takes place: 9/11, Kennedy assassination, death of Princess Di, etc, the nutters start leaping about blaming anyone and everyone as long as it conflicts with the official press releases. It has been proved beyond doubt through computer aided graphics that Oswald was the lone gunman, but the conspiracy theorists continue. If there were conspiracies behind all the tragic events, how many people would be involved and how many would stay quiet? Even after death?

Very few people need to be told, and orders are followed without much questioning!
A few people have so much power it is sickening. They get away with murder every single day! Hell, look at the Kennedy assassination. Does anyone really believe Lee Harvey Oswald killed Kennedy, especially when the head shot comes from in front of him! The Warren Commission, what a joke!
I don't think 9/11 would have been that hard to pull of by those in power! And those who have legitimate unanswered questions are written off as Kooks! See how easy!

So you are comparing the government to the mafia?
That would be funny if it wasn't so sad that people would even think that. Almost as sad as those who think that controlled demolitions brought the WTC down.
