If the popcorn ceiling goes back to the 1960's, it probably does. Mine has about 1% lead paint in it. However, unless you're going to take it down or lick it, you don't have to worry about it.

I would think that whatever paint was used in one part was used throughout at the time. Question to be answered is " was the popcorn ceiling there at the time the lead paint was used in the apartment?"
If so, then like i said, probably used the same paint throughout.
However, it is not the fact the lead paint was used, it is a question if the sealer was used or not. You see, they did come out with a sealer later on to seal the lead from being harmful - they could not force every landlord / homeowner to remove lead paint - it just did not seem economical.
So if this lead sealer was used you have nothing to worry about, if it wasn't used it is time to get on the landlord about this.

Lead paint is not an issue if it is not peeling or being messed with. It is paint, which is a stable product when dry. Do NOT mess with it! Painting it with a non lead based paint is pefectly safe and a good thing to do and is actually what a lot of businesses are doing, if they can. You will need to be very careful in the areas that need sanding or whatever, wear a mask and disposable coveralls.

You really only have to worry about lead paint if you have children. It doesn't affect adults in that form.
