It definitely matters Buttercup. Maturity levels are way off balance in this situation.
Raging hormones do not constitute love. Anyone that is 33 years of age and would even consider a relationship with a 17 year old, has reached a new low in crass and irresponsible behavior.
Morals have to play a part here. Lust is not love, and never will be.

If a 33 year old is chasing around a 17 year old, that person probably has a few issues, mostly dealing with insecurity. I'm 28 years old, and honestly, even though at 18 and 19 a girl would be LEGAL for me to be with intimatly, I am not attracted to young women in that age group. There should be a BIG difference in maturity between an 18 and 25 year old, let alone a 17 and 33 year old.

The legality would depend on your state law and other circumstances. I don't know whether "age is just a number", but with age comes life experiences and developed thinking and perceptions. The test would be what feelings and thinking patterns the two might have in common, as they have such different life references.
P.S. I wonder how many readers of this question imagined the hypothetical 33-year-old as a male? And it is interesting that the asker stated that it was the TEENAGER who was in love, yet some answerers made the 33-year-old the one with "issues". Ahh,...how quickly we don our judge robes.

I think it depends on the laws where you reside. It also depends on how mature both people are, what the parents think, etc. I don't really think age makes a difference. My friend is 54, and his wife is 31. I do think it might be better if both people were of legal; age (18 or 21). No, it isn't crazziness; you were only asking. good luck!!!!!

You may already have learn, that life don't let us choose the ones we fall in love with... If it was the case, relationship would be much more stables... So don't mind about subjective obstacles like this.
If we come down to numbers: we will met about 10000 different persons in our life time, from those, we have 2 chances to find love... Miss one, and good luck to get the second. And when I talk about love, I don't talk about some feelings for a person... I mean like you live under the skin of somebody else... This is LOVE...

Well, love maybe, just no marriage or sex due to the legal issues. I wouldn't frown on them getting to know each other better just based on age, but the parents of the 17-year-old would likely come into play.

Yes it matters. That is illegal and the 33 year old is a pedophile for messing with a 17 year old.

There's a fine line there, and depending on how mature the people are, I'd say no, it shouldn't matter at those ages.

We're living in the USA in 2007 and it matters.
That being said ::: "Everybody's the same age,
just at different times!"

I agree with firespider, the maturity levels are def way off. And imagine when you're in your 20's and he's in his 40's...yuck!
