I love giving blood. It's an amazing thing to know that I can save the life of one or more people. The pain isn't bad, it's like popping a zit. Instead of being scared, focus on being a hero for some poor child or a mother who has been in a car accident or someone who really needs you. If you really, really can't do it, then volunteer to work at the blood drive, so you can still help people. And no, being on birth control doesn't matter.

1) How old are you, how much do you weigh and are you in good health? (You don't have to answer this, but most places require you to weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, be at least 16 years old and be generally healthy.)
2) The site below explains the blood donation process. One pint of blood is not too much to give. Consider also that you may have unique blood that could really benefit another person or even save a life. This knowledge can sometimes help outweigh your concern about needles.
3) Depending on your individual situation, you may be deferred or excused from donating.
4) It's also okay not to donate. I am not a big fan of the group donations because they can create situations where people are pressured to donate when they don't want to or have reasons not to donate.

No, being on birth control doesn't matter. What would matter is how your iron levels are, so make sure to take a multivitamin days leading up to the blood drive. However, it's up to you as to whether you think you can do it. They place the needle in and it stays in until you've given a pint which can take up to 15 minutes depending on how quickly you bleed. Afterward they give you a snack and when my school had a blood drive, we got to have a half day of school if we gave blood. Plus it's for a really good cause.

I am in Afghanistan. When ever a troop gets blown up, everyone available with the right blood rushes over to donate and help save a life. Plus there are rare blood types, and if they do not have enough, it might cost a life that could have been saved. And yes, every little bit helps. I hate needles too, but it is a small price you have to pay to help others that might need it. I know girls that have donated blood while on birth control, and it wasn't an issue.

It doesn't sound as if you are a good candidate. If you pass out over a little blood test, you will most likely not fair well if you choose to do this.
If you do choose to go through with it, you will need to divulge if you are on any medications. It should not matter. However the screener will know best. (The screening is confidential, by the way)
Good luck to you if you do go through with it. Giving blood is an important and noble thing.
TIPS:
1. Eat a light, high carb, low protein meal
2. Drink plenty of fluid prior to the donation
3. Don't watch when they put in the needle - close your eyes and focus on squeezing the hand-thingy.
4. Take regular, full breaths.

Good luck!

Ive always donated blood, even on birth control they can still take it. needles dont really bother me but i think of all the lives that are saved by donating blood. after donating blood they will have u rest for awhile, eat, and normally have u drink juice to help with the dizzy feeling. i thank people that donate blood because if people didnt my daughter would have died when she needed blood transfusions... she was born 3 months premature

have someone hold your hand, no really. helps to have someone there with you and also, tightens the muscles in your arm so the vein is easier to find that way, and shouldnt hurt as much. Think of it this way, i read somewhere that one pint of blood can save up to 3 lives. isnt that worth your nervousness? :)

then don't
You will have to watch blood going out of your arm into a bag. Also, you have to constantly move your hand that has the needle in it. (squeezing a ball) If you can't handle it, then just don;t go and do it.
