I am starting to feel like I live in the Matrix.

I vote. I AM involved. What I'm talking about is the feeling that they have their own agendas, will tell us anything to get elected, and then, will do whatever they please once in office. Who is running this show???

You are so right on. crazy, illogical sh*t is always going down, there's always some crazy controversy over our governments actions and really, what do we do. its so overwhelming, where to start? Everyone wants to be so comfortable but things are getting pretty damned uncomfortable. mark my words, as I dread to say this, this country will be undone by the fighting amonst ourselves. We will draw arms against eachother and i feel that is the most terrifying fact of all of this mess. The government seems to have some plans for us as well but like many things throughout history, good will prevail.. respect and common sense will win over but we're just not ready yet. The people have no nationalism anymore. American idol is as close to patriotism as were gonna get for a while. Tune in and tune out as they say. But we are going to have to pick a side and seperate the right from the wrong. Its all so intertwined now, we start to not even know right from wrong. The divisions in this country are beyond the political and we'd better wake up. This is a good site for dialogue and you can easily see the differences between the committed and the bored. So, I guess people have very little control right now because both parties are f*cked but it won't last forever. People are getting restless, people are astonished by the degradation of this nation but also know this country is great and will not be kidnapped and whored out by a common criminal who can't wait to make a buck.

The population is divided into neat little class's You are clearly not the ruling class or else you would not have asked this question

The concept of democracy has given you some false idea's

You may choose from time to time a package deal that is offered to you by a candidate looking for a job - There is no garentee that they will deliver on that package

Your job is to pay taxes that support a class of person you will never be despite what they have told you

Other than the pesant is clean and fairly well educated these days - not much has changed in the way people are governed since feudalisim

You are told you are free - but what are you free to do or what are you free from ?

The police have rights you do not the corperate heads have health care you will only ever dream of

The list goes on -

It has been a pack of lies we have all bought into

The problem is that the rulers wish to squeeze us a bit more than usual these days so it is becoming noticed again

As this is noticed more people who complain are being called traitors and such - It will get worse before it gets better

We do not have a true democracy the nation is controlled by the rich and powerful and there is plenty of blame to go around in regards to all political parties, greed and other sins are the nature of man, one should turn to God for solace, it is pointless worry too much about this, strive to lead a good Christian life and pray for salvation, you practice another religion peace be with you. Our government for better or worse is one of the best and one would have too travel to appreciate that fact, we take so much for granted, basic human rights, no one starves to death in this country, we do have elected leaders and not a dictator as so many other nations do...I have no complaints as I have traveled extensively and have empathy for those that are brutalized and repressed by their governments, living in fear of being exterminated because they are different religion or skin color, lack basic medical care and die by the millions because no one cares, our problems pale in comparison, so some one whining about how bad it is here...sorry you need to appreciate what we have here.I for one am giving up on politics I will vote and leave it at that and try and be the best person I can be and can only hope everyone else does the same. Who ever gets elected president in 2008 do not expect change, you will be disappointed...just relax and live a good life.

During the Viet Nam war we protested and Nixon took the pot away and then all drugs. We were not crazy the war was not going well but we were winning. What I am getting at is that we protested before and we organized to fight the government and lost. We lost lives at Kent State and many rights. This time the president took the rights from the very beginning and when we got fickle we had lost the powers to resist the authority. Bush has said that his delegation and administration has our well being firmly handled. The vote is all we have to start with. Petitions (They are votes) could lead them to your home and you have no power to resist the accusations that may come. We still have guns, you see the Iraqi population is powerless to our military, they make bombs. We have so much to loose and apathy should be the first thing we let go. If you do not stand for something you will fall for anything.

The problem is that everytime a group comes up with a bill to solve a few problems, the people in office can't seem to agree on any major changes. Whether they are Republican or Democrat, nobody sees everything 100% the same way. This is why we can't seem to get anything done.

Personally, I've never felt like I have ever had any control over the government's actions. If I did, they would never get a pay raise for doing a crappy job, they would get fired like us regular folks.

Or they would have to settle for the same crappy pension plans that they dole out to us.

Remember we don't live in true democracies. We don't get to vote on things that have the most direct influence on our own lives.

We only get the chance to vote for one self centered, egotistical, monomaniacal, self serving twit over another.

What do you mean "no longer have any control"? The level of control remains fairly constant. Stop complaining via this website and get involved in government. Vote. Attend municipal government meetings (school board, county commission, whatever), write your congressman instead of yahoo answers (do you know who represents your district in the House? - if you don't you're part of the problem)

I surely feel like our opinions don't matter. I hate to say it, because I don't like to classify groups, but I have recently come to the conclusion that anyone that enters politics, changes once in office. Very rarely do you find someone that you elected actually caring about what his people want. We are living in a country that sends people to jail for driving without a license for 2 yrs, and we sent child molesters for a few months. Its sad.

Ruth - do not begin to tell Me what I do and do not understand, for I have lived exactly what i spoke above. The so called "system" changes by the minute, depending on who you are, how much money you have, who represents you and so forth.

I don't think I have ever felt like "we the people had CONTROL over our government's actions" beyond a voice and a vote.

Can you please inform me of a time in this country when the system operated differently?

ADDED: The concern over child molesters only serving a few months is not as bad as it used to be. Until the Sex Offender Registries, they could move and reoffend. The reason many do not serve "hard time" for their first offense is that the victim or the parents of the victim are unwilling or unable to handle the rigors of a trial. Please learn to understand the system, and don't just be so quick to assume it is worse. Our criminal justice system is one area that continues to improve.
