Step 1) is completing multiplication, which is

(-2) (-7). It involves (a) signs multiplication like (-) (-) = +

(b) number multiplication (2) (7) = 14

"(a) and (b) together is answer, which is +14"

Now complete solving as by 9 - (+14) = 9 -14 = -5

because of (-) sign in front of (+14) it becomes (-14) and when subtraction involves 'two different sign' numbers a related answer will bear "sign of large number" after a usual subtraction!

Hence (-5 ) is final answer!

remember: if there are two negative, its positive.

you can do it like this: multiply first the two negative numbers

(-2)(-7)=+14 right?

so: 9 - (+14) but negative x positive = negative

therefore: 9 - 14 = -5

use the order or operations...
remember the order:
parentheses, exponent, multiplication, division, add, subtract
so you multiply -2 and -7 first, and get 14.
9- 14 = -5... simple hope it helps
