The problem with our culture today, is that it is now so anti- Christian, that every other faith is OK, as long as it doesn't mention Jesus, the Cross, or the God of the universe. Most teachers in the public schools, would be surprised to find out how this country got it's beginning through its faith in God.
Do you know what religion is? Religion is believing in something and committing yourself to it, weather it's right or wrong. Going to church, or any place to worship whatever god you desire, just to get to heaven, is religion. Karma is religion, believing in fate is religion. You can make anything or anybody your god, it all depends on what you devote yourself to.
You can't know God through religion, you know him through a personal relationship with him. If you don't believe me, just call out his name and ask him to show you. If your search is serious, he will show you, get a Bible and read it, and let him show you through his Word.
What do you believe? How do you believe? How do you come by your beliefs?
When your born, your a blank human being, you know nothing, you had some God given traits that gave you your unique personality, other than that, you had to be taught everything that you now know. Little by little, you learn. You believe that your mother will feed you, or change your diaper if you cry loud enough. You later belive in yourself enough to start to walk. If your parents are God fearing christians, you learn about God, and maybe start believing in Him. So on and so on....
But the opposite is also true. If no one takes care of you in your early years, you might believe that no one will ever care about you, or maybe that your worthless. (Which is not true!)
Hope this helps!!

You mentioned "fate" which would be an easy one to talk about. Like with fate things are going to happen a certain way which nobody can stop or change.
