well. first of all i'm going to assume there were some kind of warning signs that alerted me as to the coming invasion before we were completely overrun. first i would gather all the people who need to be gathered and create a stronghold. preferably something high and well fortified like an old apartment building. next i would get maps of the entire area and the world, along with relevant educational material pertaining to operating heavy artillery and planes. no zombie folklore would come into play in my planning at all because im assuming this is due to some blood disease or other medically explainable phenomena.
i would assemble a small fleet of veichles including a helicopter and a larger plane if i could swing it although i know someone at continental so watch me. the larger plane would of course be waiting in a field somewhere for me, hidden under a camoflagued cover of branches and dug into the ground on a hydraulic platform.
weapons, of course, whatever is around. definately a lot of bats with nails through the tops and things that shoot flames. molotov cocktails. lots and lots of guns and huge crate upon crate filled with ammo. i need some missles to clear the area surrounding my stronghold if need be. for supplies we have a shitload of canned food and water and all that crap. first aid, all kinds of medicine and supplies from the hospital, etc. (including medical textbooks)bunch of seeds, plants, etc.
we maintain the stronghold until 1. either the enemy dies out or is defeated or 2. the situation worsens and we have to escape. we know this has happened if the zombies begin to organize and show no signs of dying out or reducing in number.
the escape involves the 2 choppers hidden in the shed on top of the roof, a quick enearthing and takeoff of the plane, and a flight to an island surrounded by deep water.

These are my basic plans, as well as some advice for you, the reader. Many people believe false information about zombies, and that will kill them. I'm just trying to help save their lives.
For a short term safe house, a two-story house is good. Head up into the attic and destroy the stairs. If you can kill all the zombies from there (by means of head-shot) come down, have a drink, and pat your self on the back. However unless you live in a rural area or have a hell of a lot of ammo, this probably won't happen. Live there as long as you can, and move out when you have to.
For a long term safe house, the house itself doesn't really matter. (although, a two-story house is still favored. more space) What it needs is some sort of perimeter to keep the zombies out. This allows you to grow your own food in the yard.
Some believe that the zombie will just decay in a week or so. Not so. The virus that creates zombies (Solanum, for anyone who wants to know.) is resistant to most bacteria that eats dead flesh. The actual shelf life for a zombie is about 5 - 8 months. Even longer in colder regions.
As for weapons, you want to kill them as quietly as possibly, with out getting to close. Your best bet is a silencer for your gun or a crossbow. Use melee weapons only when you have to. The closer you are to the zombie, the easier it is for them to bite you.
The best gun is the semi-automatic rifle. Single shot guns are too slow, and machine guns are too fast. (Remember, the only way to kill a zombie is the destroy the brain. Hitting them anywhere other than the head is a waste of ammo.) The semi-auto is just the right speed.
Choice of melee is really just your personal preference. Just use anything you can carry around easily and can decapitate or crush the skull in one blow. Just don’t use things like chainsaws and such. They’re too heavy, too loud, and there fuel is finite.
NEVER USE FIRE Well, almost never. Fire is dangerous to the user as well as the zombie. It should be used only in the most controlled situations.
Armor is also a no-no. Most people make this mistake. Plate mail is very heavy. Carrying that around on your shoulders is too much strain. And zombies can easily rip the leather joints. Chain mail, although slightly lighter, makes a lot of noise, and a zombies bite is strong enough to rip flesh through the armor. (Although you won’t get infected.) Also, what happens if zombies knock you down and swarm you? Now you’re stuck there. Zombies may not be able to bite you, but you can't get up. Now you just wait for the zeds to finally get through the armor, or until you STARVE to death.
Kevlar is equally stupid as zombies don’t bite your torso. There is lighter kevlar for your arms, but it’s not strong enough to stop the bite. The best armor is tight clothes and short hair. The less hanging off of you, the less there is for the zombie to grab.

If I thought zombies were going to override the earth, first I 'd turn the movie off and then I would find a good shrink.

one thing zombies lack is intelligence. there is very little chance that a zombie, or even a group of zombies acting in unison, could make it only an airplane or boat unaided by the living. perhaps they could in fact board such a vehicle, but operating it successfully to its destination would be virtually impossible.
therefore, assuming the zombieness is not transmitted by air or a roving smog cloud or an atmospheric or spatial disturbance, the condition ought to be confined to the CONTINENT on which it began, although it can spread to any place connected by land.
you need to know how to operate a boat or a plane prior to the zombies' appearance and have access to such a vehicle. keep that vehicle well stocked with food and water, and at the first sign of zombieness head for one of the many habitable islands on the planet. the entire Oceania region (Nauru, Fiji, Palau, etc), the Lesser Antilles (Guadaloupe, Dominica, St. Lucia, etc), and the islands around Africa (Sao Tome & Principe, the Seychelles, etc) are likely options. stay clear of more obvious islands like Tanzania, Madagascar, and the Greater Antilles nations, because the more people who flee there, the greater the likelihood that a zombie will have stowed away on their boats and planes.

Personally... I would raid, a "Gander Mountain" retail store, of their weapons (guns), I would have a crew of 10 or less because it is a containable group (More than 10 is asking for trouble and would be attracting more zombies). Next I would barricade a grocery store which would give my group enough food to last for years( Eat perishables first, and be ready to dispose of the rest when the power is cut). I would assign daily patrols around the grocery store to make sure no zombies get in (anywhere), I would stay outta sight, and make minimal noise, and wait for help fo come (if it comes at all)... if not then my group would go in search of more survivors (And we would be the Help that comes) Make sure you dispose of zombies through HEAD SHOTS, NOWHERE ELSE!! IT WILL NOT PHASE THEM, ZOMBIES ARE TOO STUPID TO REALIZE THEIR HURT, AND THEY DON'T FEEL PAIN... NERVE RECEPTORS ARE STILL DEAD WHEN ZOMBIES REANIMATE!... OR EVEN DETERR THEM, THEY WILL STILL COME AFTER YOU!! Eventually clear the area outside of grocery store and HOPE FOR THE BEST FOR US SURVIVORS!

A Zombie holocaust would be the worst possible scenario in my opinion. The majority would die in horrific, bone breaking, molar teeth gouging your thigh fashion. It would be so baaad. I would use a gun and definitely hold true the headshot lore. i would surprised if blowing their heads off didn't actually work. I would try to hide in the mountains but the mountains got alot of people in em here but still, the odds would be better in remote areas. Everyone should know how to purify water. Dude, read World War Z. i din't read it but my husband recounted each page in great detail and it pretty much addresses your question in detail you wouldn't imagine!

Well from what I've learned about zombies is that while they are persistent they are not the swimming type, nor do they seem capable of operating machinery. While one's first instinct is to use some type of gun or even a "high trajectory missile" against the zombie horde I believe I would take up a defensive stance. As such my first order of business would be to travel to a nearby island with a select crew via sailboat. Here I would set up my base of operations. A zombie-free zone where I could assemble my anti-zombie strategy. As in any situation when one is confronted with the zombie menace information is the greatest weapon of all. In order to acquire supplies I would embark on a raiding campaign much like that of the Viking expeditions of the middle ages. Swords and shields would be needed while the larger members of my cadre might choose to wield battle axes. Though Zombies often rely on the element of surprise and terror, I would use their slow speed and lack of teamwork to exploit their unguarded territories in a fashion that allowed me the greatest reward of supplies while maintaining the least possible risk to my own safety. Of course in any such venture one must be prepared to do battle with the enemy. My cohorts and I would train for this as our very survival would depend on our ability to fend off Zombie attackers while acquiring new supplies. While individual hand to hand combat would be best while attempting hit and run tactics. Larger Zombie hordes would most likely necessitate the usage of the Spartan phalanx. With Zombies employing no type of battlefield formation, it would be easy to make short work of them since they would be unable to penetrate the united from of the phalanx. After raiding the Zombie countryside and returning to the Adam Island I would sponsor an orgy while the Zombies watched from the coast with jealousy in their dead eyes.

i could in my view ought to choose for a freshly sharpened katana, Kill invoice type. there are lots of people who does no longer have the rigidity to bash a zombie head with a blunt merchandise. Which makes a katana appropriate, considering that all it takes is a few trouble-free hand-eye coordination. this is a nicely-known weapon for everybody! =)

Don't even get me started.
I would probably barricade my house with engine and gas less cars (no explosions), wooden planks, and bricks.
Then I'd rig my stairs with minor explosives in case the zombies break through so I can blow the stairs.
As for weapons I would grab 10 of the people I can trust the most and stock up with:
-10 AK-47 with 70 rd. drum mags and around 10,000 rounds each (100,000 rounds)
-10 high powered silenced military grade sniper rifles with 10 rd. mags and around 7,500 rounds each (75,000 rounds)
- 2 berettas, deagles, and silenced uzis for eack person wth extended mags and around 500 rounds for each pair. (30,000 rounds)
- 500 frag grenades
- 10 M4 with grenade launcher with 5,000 rounds each and 100 grenades each
- 5 flamethrowers
- 10 SPAS 12 shotguns with 2,500 rounds each
I'm taking most of this advice from 'The Zombie Survival Guide' so that is my zombie-lore
I would stay in my house because i know the area in case I have to run if the zombies break into my impenetrable fortress
For vitals:
- 50 years worth of food and water
- 25 years worth of diesel fuel (power)
- A huge area designated for poop
and of course a really, really good escape route leading to an uninhibited island.

Need a good hatchet and shotgun for close range and rifle for distance. Any 9mm for backup gun. Backpack of ammo.
If you're caught on open land when zombies attack, need to get a truck (4x4 needed) put some extra cans of gas in back. Load it up with a couple of cases of bottled water and canned goods. Get to a fortified city or town. Don't trap yourself in a place with no backway out. Keep on the move. Good to have a couple of well armed friends with you. If caught in building when zombies attack, stay hidden and quiet
until night, then try to make run for vehicle and weapons and well armed friends.
