i think that the movies that are so degrading towards the books shood be burned and sent to h-e-double hockeysticks
A few that make steam come out of my ears:
Eragon
Harry Potter
Series of Unfortunate Events

Personally I hate when that happens! It's like some idiot read the book and loved it but rushes to make money out of the movie deal and bigger idiots down the line finance, produce and direct it without even keeping to the parameters of what made it a great book to begin with! Several Stephen King books guilty of this are The Last Stand, and the Langoliers. Maybe i am just biased because S. King is my favorite author.

It sucks!! Why take a great literary work and try to make it Hollywood-inized? A novel was meant to be a novel, otherwise the author would have written a screenplay, why not just leave it like that? (I HATE it when the details of the movie are completely different from the book to make it more Hollywood i.e. The Dream Catcher)
This is to Tiffany: As far as Harry Potter goes, JK Rowling actually collaborates with the screenplay writers and director on the movies, so she can make sure they stay as true to the books as possible. Harry Potter is one of the few that I actually like on screen as well as in writing!

a million. digital conflict via Gloria Skurzynski the international is in a fall-out state, and wars are fought in digital international. there's a solid love tale besides. 2. Statwars: youthful Jedi Knights sequence Who does not like Starwars? 3. Any of the Halo books via Eric Nylund. particular, there's a very solid tale at the back of the Halo universe. 4. crimson Wall sequence Mice are cool. 5. yet another Doon action picture could be tight.

Its a terrible shame. One example is the book "Shoeless Joe Jackson" which became "Field Of Dreams"

You may be too young for this, but 1977's "The Choirboys" was an excellent novel, but a mediocre movie.

Ella Enchanted got mangled. One can barely see the similarities in the plots.
