Its like watching someone flush a ton of money down the toilet, you can't believe your eyes, but its actually happening.... I guess that is why.......

An entire generation of Yankees fans are having one of the basic tenets of their belief system -- that a Yankees championship (or at least a postseason berth) is their yearly birthright -- go down in flames, live, every day. And there's not even a reason for it! Monster payroll, check. All-star talent, check. Darth Torre in the dugout, check. Yankee Stadium, check. Hatred of the Red Sox, check.

Everything is as it should be, and the team simply does not win. The fans cannot effectively process this reality.

So they lash out, mostly by talking the matter to death and beyond.

It's kinda like realizing you've been following, in good faith, a false prophet. Major oops, but it's the sort of thing that dies very, very hard. Continuing to try living the known lie is easier than facing the truth.

"I'm NOT the messiah, really!"
"I say you are, my lord, and I should know, I've followed a few!"

Because weather you love or hate the Yankees, there's always some kind of drama swirling around them. It is New York after all.

I'm cool with it. As an Orioles fan, if they can continue to play well, with the microscope that the Yankees are under, little ol Baltimore will continue to cruise along under the media radar. So will Toronto if they start to play well.

That is a good ?. I dont know. I cant stand when they put the red sox and yankees on tv everytime they play either. The yankees are in last so it aint worth it no more to even watch the game.

Because it is a rarety to see the Yankees in a position such as this. There is a lot of money for these athletes to be in a tie for a last place. When things are going bad, people like to see if rumors are being said and focus the attention in that area. Yankee haters like to see these things and rub it in to their wounds.

Because ESPN has bred all these young guys in America to like either Boston or New York if they do not have pro ball in their area. So all these kids from Connecticut, Alabama and New Mexico all LOVE the Yankees or Boston. There are just too many of these fans everywhere.

Because the NY fans cry when they dont get it if they are good so you gotta expect it just as much when they suck, beside the fact that most baseball fans in this country hate the yankees and what they stand for even the NY writers dont like what they stand for.

Because the expectations for the Yankees is always so high. They spend the most money, they have (usually) the best players and they usually win.

They spend more money than anyone on talent. They try to buy themselves into the world series.....Steinbrener is like a kid in a candy store when it comes to buying guys for the team, traditionally. The yanks can sign ANYONE. But the teams that have to work for it, the teams without the 'natural talent'....they have to go out there and bust there rumps to improve and put points on the board. THAT is admirable. It says lots about the human spirit. We like to see the underdogs win! And we love to rub it in the rich snobby b---satards when they loose! That's human nature!

Because they're the Yankees and people are jealous of the success that they've had. That's why you couldn't help but ask a question about them.

Because..

c) they have the highest payroll in baseball
d) they are the most enigmatic team in American sports.

You either love them or hate them (I hate them)
but you can't ignore them if your a baseball fan.
