5x^2 - 19x + 12

Try factoring the numerator.
x = (19 +/- sqrt(361 - 240))/10
x = (19 +/- sqrt(121))/10
x = (19 +/- 11)/10
x = 3 or x = .8

5(x - 3)(x - .8)

Divide that by x-3 and you get 5(x - .8) = 5x - 4

Using synthetic division:-
3 | 5---- -19------ 12
--|----------15---- -12
_________________
-- 5----- - 4--------0 = R
-------------------------------
R = 0
This shows that x - 3 is a factor of 5x² - 19x + 12
(5x² - 19x + 12) / (x - 3) = 5x - 4
