There are laws preventing blood brothers and sisters from getting married due to the risk of genetic deformation in the resulting offspring. But if there are no blood ties, there are ethical concerns as to the mental states of the people involved. This situation can, in certain cases, be termed peer incest and is looked upon as a state of chronic traumatic stress due to a dysfunctional family situation, where the members are vulnerable to all forms of abuse.
