I am hearing impaired and I got an urgent letter from Sorenson Video Relay service... And its saying that Bush is deciding to cut - off VRS and make all of us Hearing Impairs go back to TTY/TTD where we have to suffer from dealing with LOOONG delays of GA and SK and so on. You are probably puzzled about Video Relay Service, are you? go to www.sorensonvrs.com and you will see what it is. I'll give you a description of it: Its like a webcam, and when I make a phone call to a hearing individual, an interpreter comes up and she/he calls the number I provide. And we wait till a person picks up and answers. Then we use sign language to communicate. its FAST and EASY to understand anyone w/o having to use words and it so much fast for us. If you really do want to help us, all you have to do is type in a "signature" and I will copy this after the end of this week and mail it to my congressman/woman. Here's mine:

We deaf people are trying to keep this VP going w/o having to go back to TTD and TTYs. So if someone supports our needs, they and use a "signature" to tell our government that we want to keep VP going for as long as it lives. Since we do really need it. Its Bush that is deciding that cause HE is paying for it. Its really hard to explain... He pays the interpreters to interprete for us, he pays the bill that we call to others to communicate. Its free for us. If we can get a lot of signatures, we can continue using Video Relay Service. and not TTYs.
Does that help?

In addition, our congress does all the work to debate in the house of reps and demos to pass another bill to have the president sign it as acception or veto it. Why is Bush trying to cut medicaid and medicare off? Surely he's trying to do that to our ADA provided services, too. Not everyone can survive.

You must have gotten a hoax e-mail.

this is a quote from Sorenson Communications .

Salt Lake City, UT, Sorenson Communications, the nation’s leading provider of video relay services (VRS) and equipment for the deaf community, applauds President Bush’s intent to nominate Kevin Martin as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission for an additional five-year term, which would continue on until June 30, 2011.

VRS is a private service, Bush has no way to cut it off.

.

And as your your post about Bush trying to kill medicare and medicaid.

Thats just silly.

The Medicare budget has increased 57.3% since Bush was elected. From 237 billion to 378 billion.

The Medicaid budget has increased 51% since Bush was elected, from 129 billion to 180 billion.

Lots of deaf people fail to realize the VRS industry enjoyed their success at the expense of the deaf communities. The VRS industry exacerbated interpreter shortages and the deaf communities paid a big price for it through loss of employment, loss of independence, loss of life, loss of safety, loss of freedom, and loss of justice.

I can go into the details of these losses. And I will do it and get loud all the way to FCC and tell them the true costs borne by the deaf communities of keeping the VRS industry alive.

And what exactly do you want me to do to help you? You want my email is that it and my name and state is that it?

*OK...Yeah kind of. I still dont really understand how Bush is paying for this or how hes completely in charge of the decision..

Never heard of this. You sure this is Bush and not the Congress cutting the funding?

I don't feel safer with corrupted elites in office. That's essentially what we will have, and invariably have had, with elitists (rich, best education, predominately white, etc.) that are given campaign contributions--basically bribes--to represent corporations and their policies. F-them all.
