Infrared port....?

Question

i just got a new sony ericsson cell phone which comes with an infrared port....what exactly is it and how do i use it?? PLease be specific....thanx in advance!

If you have a laptop or computer with an IR port (it used to be very common in the past), you can use it to transfer files such as jpeg images or songs/ringtones between your PC and the phone, or backup your phone.

The IR port is often used to exchange short notes or phone numbers. Both phones/devices must have an IR port to communicate.
