I live in L.A. and have followed Kobe's career since his 1st summer league game at 17 years old which I attended. At that time I labeled him "The Future". Now I will hopefully refer to him as "The Past". I can't be like so many blind Laker loyalists any longer and have unfaltering loyalty to this guy.
I have tried to maintain my love for the organization throughout the last few years when a potential dynasty was dismantled. They gave Kobe the keys to the castle (the classiest castle in professional sports) because it was what he wanted. He wanted to lead a team on his own and to his credit he hasn't had any help from the front office. But that's a chance he took when he made it clear he wanted his own team.
I'm convinced now (finally) that Kobe is concerned only with himself. He could have dealt with these issues with more class rather than whining and flip-flopping to the media.
I would say trade him now if Kupchack hadn't made the worst deal of all time in the Shaq trade. He can't be trusted to make a good deal.
Many of the things that Kobe says are true but he signed up for this when he didn't fight to keep the 3peat team together. And though he may not have forced Shaq out of town he certainly didn't fight to keep him here.
He is a waste of some of the rarest talent the league has ever seen. Problem being that he can't get along with anyone.
Depressed and embarrassed in L.A.

First of all, anyone saying that trading Kobe would be the worst trade in sports has amnesia and can't remember 3 years ago. Trading Shaq was the worst trade in sports history. The Lakers immediately went from being in the finals to having a losing record and missing the playoffs completely in 1 season. Miami went from being a ho-hum team to getting to the Eastern Conference finals, Shaq being runner up for reg season MVP, and then winning a championship a year later.
Kobe has had 3 years to win a single playoff series and hasn't done it. Who else are you going to trade? Odom? injured. Brown? injured. Bynum? Sure, but you're not going to get Garnett for just Bynum. Lets face it, building this franchise around Kobe hasn't worked, and 3 more years of this mess isn't going to get the Lakers any closer to the championship again. They'd end up wasting 3 more years, and then Kobe opts out of his contract and the Lakers are left with absolutely nothing. He creates division on the team, not leadership. If you were his teammate, would you follow him after what he's said this week?
Kobe is the wrong star to build the Lakers franchise around. If he isn't traded soon, the Lakers are headed for the same fate as Indiana had with Ron Artest. Putting too much faith in a star that will let you down in the end leaves you with nothing.

No. How can you people/idiots say Kobe is overrated? He is without argument the best player in the NBA, let alone in the world. You probably haven't even watched him half the season. I'm a huge Lakers/Kobe fan, and so are about 99.1% of the sports fans out here in SoCal. I'd prefer not to even speak about trade options. Kobe is the heart and soul of LA, and things would be so scary and different without 24 in the mix. It'd be a nightmare. I can see his frustration. He lays it on the court every night, and no one else does consistently. However, if Odom plays like the all-star he is, we'll be no more than one player away from being a championship calibur team. So far, the man who fits that position perfectly is Ron Artest. Artest plays defense, is strong inside, and can also hit the outside shot. To be honest, after the 27-14 start, I thought we'd be in serious contention this year. If Kobe will calm down, think things through, and trust the front office to bring in a big-time player like Artest, with a few small changes, I guarantee at least a Finals appearance next year. Kobe will always bleed purple and gold.

Kobe has a no-commerce clause in his settlement, so he can't a distinctive team except he concurs to it. i do no longer see him leaving l. a. voluntarily. you're additionally writing off the Lakers way too early. i do no longer see why they might't be good contenders for the call for the subsequent 2-3 years. Dallas eradicated the Lakers final season, however the Mavs are a particularly old team themselves. So are the Spurs. and those gifted youthful communities nevertheless have not proved they have what it takes to win all of it. I accept as true with you that his settlement is ridiculous, even even though it truly does not impact the Lakers on the unfastened agent marketplace. l. a. is so far over the income cap that whether Kobe performed for unfastened the Lakers does no longer be waiting to sign any unfastened brokers. And one element Kobe does do is save Staples center bought out and those celebrities paying hundreds of greenbacks for his or her tickets.

all of you Kobe haters are having a field day today aren't you?? Should the Lakers trade Kobe?? are you out of your mind? that would be the dumbest deal in the history of sports EVER. Worse than Babe Ruth going to NY from bean town. And im glad Shaq cleared the aire. FINALLY the truth comes out and it was true that Kobe DID NOT send shaq packing. He had nothing to do with Dr. Buss's decision. And for those of you that say that no one wants to play with Kobe you're out of your mind! Baron Davis was BEGGING to come to L.A. before he went to Goldent State. So did Artest before he went to Sacramento. And Jason Kidd just this season. Lets just take a breath and relax Kobe isn't going anywhere! He's going to retire a Laker just like it should be!

NOONE would come to the lakers game if kobe was gone even if they got equal value for him (at this point in his career probably not possible). All the bandwagon fans and celebs would be gone.
In a sense they are rebuilding. Other than kobe everyone on that team is pretty young and or pretty inexperienced when it comes to the playoffs.

I don't really care about the Lakers anymore, I only cared about Kobe.
Probably it’s Karma. It’s Jerry Buss who decided to not to extend Shaq’s contract and put a lid on it so the public didn’t have a choice but to make Kobe the scapegoat because they don’t know the truth.

If the Lakers lose Kobe and don't get another superstar, then their dynasty is going to take a deep fall. Think about this, the Lakers did pretty good this season, they made it to the post season, but lose fighting to the Suns. In my opinion thats good, keeping in mind they only have 1 superstar and a bunch of young players. I think they need to get another superstar in their rotation at any cost, like KG or Jason Kidd, then they will be Championship calibur, but what they need most if they cant get a superstar is a very good center, because K.Brown isn't meeting standards.

Kobe is not over rated. A jerk, but not over rated. He also took back his statement about wanting to be traded. If Kobe had a top 30 center/power forward on his team, the Lakers would be a championship contender. Instead of trading Kobe trade Odem and Brown. I know the Nuggets would trade K Mart in a heart beat for either one of those players.
