White House opposes 3.5 percent pay raise
By Rick Maze - Staff writer

Troops don’t need bigger pay raises, White House budget officials said Wednesday in a statement of administration policy laying out objections to the House version of the 2008 defense authorization bill.
The Bush administration had asked for a 3 percent military raise for Jan. 1, 2008, enough to match last year’s average pay increase in the private sector. The House Armed Services Committee recommends a 3.5 percent pay increase for 2008, and increases in 2009 through 2012 that also are 0.5 percentage point greater than private-sector pay raises.

Bush budget officials said the administration “strongly opposes” both the 3.5 percent raise for 2008 and the follow-on increases, calling extra pay increases “unnecessary.”

While a 3 percent raise would match the inflation rate or the level of corporate raises, it still wouldn't bring the military up to the level of what people can earn in the private sector.
There should not be military families on food stamps!
Even 3.5% isn't enough to bring military pay up to what it should be. Military people are risking their lives for us, and they get paid very little in relation to what they deserve.
If Bush can't see that, then he's as blind about military salaries as he is about . . . practically everything else.

maximum folk believed the conflict replaced into justified on the time of the vote. some theory the vote does no longer bring about an profession of Iraq. Now that we've stirred up the hornets nest and destroyed various the infrastructure in Bahgdad, how can we only leave like it on no account handed off? My situation with the "help the troops" topic is that it form of feels as though we are only meant to be like cheerleaders extremely of given the possibility to truly make a contribution to the conflict attempt. except human beings experience the urge to enlist, it boils right down to the two conserving quiet or putting a magnet on the motor vehicle for people who the two can no longer enlist or who haven't any family/friends who've enlisted. many times, we'd have larger taxes, or there may be extra human beings we somewhat understand in touch in the conflict. What we've are deaths, debt, and no bring about sight. the full element replaced into poorly dealt with and few on the two fringe of the fence might deny that at this component.

The Bush administration opposites the extra 0.5%. They wish simply to match the private sector not exceed it. If they were to give the extra 0.5% it would inflate budgets passed the point in which congress would accept.
Then you would complain cause Bush raised your taxes to pay the troops! Stop using a double edged sword!

Oh my god I can't believe that people are answering who still think that there is a connection between Iraq and 911.
Bush is having a hard time with money. Notice how he says things like we can't spend money on DOMESTIC programs.
He says it all the time. We need more money for no bid contracts silly.
You are correct. Bush didn't lie. He had other people lie for him. Dick Cheney and most of his administration.
Get a clue. He lies almost every time he opens his mouth.

Excuse me, but I spent over 20 years in the military and 3% is a normal pay raise. When a Democrat is in office we get less. The only time I got more was when Reagan was in office. Oh and I have not been able to find when Bush knowingly told a lie to get us into the War on Terror. I do believe we were attacked, you do remember the WTC don't you?
