x-5y=10
2x-10y=20

x=10+5y

10+5y-10y=20
5y-10y=20-10
-5y=10
y=-2

2x-10y=20
2x-10(-2)=20
2x+20=20
2x=0
x=0

isolate x

x=10+5y

sub in to the second equation and solve

2(10+5y)-10y=20

expand

20+10y-10y=20

collect alikes
y=0

now do the same and solve for x

x=10+5y

2(10+5y)-10y=20
20+10y-10y=20
0y=0 y=0
x-0=10
x=10

this is an identity, and there are infinite solutions

if you double the first equation, you find that it is the same as the second

2(x-5y = 10)
2x - 10y = 20

there are infinitely many solutions. both equations are the same. divide both sides of the second equation by 2 to see this.
