Once you reinstall your new operating system and it boots up, Windows will automatically install the latest driver if it finds it. If not, it will ask for the location of the driver. That's when you put in the CD and point to the location.

Also, if Windows doesn't automatically install the drivers, you can go to the Control Panel and click on Install New Hardware. It will ask for you the driver CD and again, point to its location. I hope this helps.

First thing, if you format your hard drive, you will wipe out everything to include all files.

Now if you do that, you will need to reinstall the OS (operational system) such as Windows XP and you will need that CD Key also known as Product Key. Once you put in that Reinstallation CD, just follow the install wizard, it will load all drivers that you need. The CPU will prompt you to insert the resource disk and just choose all the default and it will be done.

If you or anyone had installed any other hardware (such as printer, a scanner, perhaps a different video card then the one it came with) you have to have that software cd also. Once you got the OS (windows xp, windows vista) back on the computer and you can log on, the OS will search for new hardware and prompt you to put in the CD that came with that hardware. If you need help, you can email me. I do this for a living and I have installed software and hardware on 1000's of computers.

Before you begin, you should backup on external storage anything you created which you do not want to lose.

You should be very careful. Formatting a HD is so easy it is frightening. It should be done with a conscious effort.
Just open My Computer, click C (to hightlight), click File, click Format - and voila! - you have nothing.

Now you have to install Windows and every other program you had. You had better have the CDs and they should be legitimate.
