Why? Because yesterday I came home to find that my 30 gallon tank had somehow cracked and everything that was inside of it was now all over the house lol. All 10 fish were dead and the 3 turtles were missing. It took me about 2 hours to find 2 of them and I still can't find the 3rd. It's been about a day and 7 hours from the time I'm typing this right now since it broke, give or take a few hours. I know that I had the door open for a few minutes where I was cleaning up everything and I'm thinking the 3rd crawled out the door cause I seriously have looked in every crack, under every possible thing on the floor- everywhere! Their all 3 only about 2-3 inches big, so if he actually somehow still is in the house, and considering that time frame, can he possibly still be alive, espeically without food for that long? Thank you all for your help.

If it has only been a day then your turtle could still be alive. At the time being their is not set amount of time for a turtle to starve or die of thirst much like with humans, it all depends on circumstance. Don't give up quite yet!

Good luck in finding your turtle. Don't give up hope until it has been a few days.

There was a very interesting story about two or three months ago about a turtle named roger that disappeared from a backyard. Well 5 years later they found the turtle wen they went to a yard sale and spied it in the peoples garage. The turtle had traveled about 20 miles to get there. The reason they knew it was roger cause they had scratched it's name on its shell.

What kind of turtle is it, RES? I have 2 RES, and a few times they both have "escaped". Once one of them was lost for two weeks when she was a baby, she was very dry when I found her but fine. She was depressed for a few days and wouldn't eat. The male turtle climbed out of the glass tank once (I don't even know how) and was lost for a week, he was fine when I found him. He ate the next day, and they're both doing great now (its been a few months since the last escape).

Turtles are amazing creatures, they can survive through almost anything. They've been around for millions of years. Hopefully you find your turtle, you should mainly worry about it getting hurt or wounded. It'll be fine for at least a week w/o food and water, but if it gets injured it could die quickly.

Just look everywhere warm and moist. Like other poepe have said, I am sure it will still be alive, it will take a while for it to die.

Look under EVERYWHERE. Get down on your belly and look around you for anywhere you hadn't seen before, check ALL the adjacent rooms, check outside that door you said about for everywhere dark and warm. Put some moist/dark areas around the edges of rooms etc, with very smelly food in to attract it (like a box, filled with wet tissue, with sardines in, or something), and change it daily, and look at it evry morning. Also, go around at night (like midnight) and search with a torch, that will be most likely when it is on the move.

Hope this helps

Turtles need water to hunt in, eat in, and drink- but not to breathe or to keep their skin wet. It should be reasonably OK for over a week- thirst and hunger will be the problems then.

It is probably hiding- their first instinct in situations like this is to hide, not run out a door only open for a bit. It is probably just somewhere you don't think it will fit. They are often found hiding in clothing, piles of stuff, under carpets, etc.
