Think about it - what causes a lunar eclipse? Where MUST the moon be for this to happen? What phase would it be in then?

The same logic and questions applies to a solar eclipse, but the answer is NOT the same.

A lunar eclipse is when the moon passes into Earth's shadow. That only happens when the moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the sun. So that would be at full moon. A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun and casts a shadow onto the Earth. So that would be at new moon.

It really doesn't matter the phase of the moon, as long as the moon is visible(not new moon). Same for the Solar eclpse, but i don't think that the moon has to be visible before this occurs.
