The implication that everyone has a reputation is peculiar; reputation is for those that are of public figure or other external ongoing social circumstance.
Regular folks are not described as having a "reputation." Perhaps you mean somehting like, 'is character more valuable than observers' opionion.' Actually, without cult type interpretations of both definitions, character precludes reputation - reputation defined as a public opinion of a person's known decisions and actions of consequence.
I am one that, at ground zero, is of of no inclination toward reputation; character is the only value to the likes of me and my creed (genotype).

My character.
Reputation only matters if you let it.
Besides, character determines reputation so I definitely value my character more.

I don't own either so i could care less if the both disappeared. I would still be who I think I am and everyone else will just accept that or not.
