In a war involving dozens of countries, tens of millions of troops, hundreds of thousands of planes and armoured vehicles, thousands of ships, across the whole face of the planet..?

This isn't a good question ... because ...
What countries are we talking about?
When are you counting from? 1931 when the war began in China or 1939 when it began in Europe?
What do you consider a military operation? If you count every clash of arms the number will most likely be over 100,000 ... and no one will be able to count nor identify them all ...

so, do you see the problems here?
The best answer might simple be "a lot"

By whom? You've got so many countries involved that there's going to be a very large number.
