42x - 6x^3
-------------
36x

divide top and bottom by 6

7x - x^3
----------
6x

or

(x)(7 - x^2)
--------------
6x

If x < > 0 (not equal to 0)
then divide top and bottom by "x"

Note: To check your work for errors,
try plugging in x = 2 into both
