If I could only have one child, I would want a boy. The reason is because I don't want my family name to stop at my generation. When a girl gets married, she will change her surname and my family name would no longer exist. If I could have two, I would choose a boy first and then a girl. This is because the boy would finish his education faster and be able to help me with my business. Not that a girl cannot do the same thing, but there is a slight possibility that my daughter would get married and choose not to work, as many women in my country have taken that path.

I would choose to have a girl, because I have more in common with girls than boys. I'd like to be able to share a lot of interests and experiences with my child, and there are more chances of that happening with a girl. :)
Of course, having a girl doesn't guarantee she'll be interested in what I'm interested in, whether those are "stereotypical" female interests or not. Similarly, having a boy doesn't guarantee he'll be interested in stereotypical "guy things." But I'd still much prefer taking my chances with a girl than a boy.
If I could have two children, I'd like the second to be a boy, because I *would* like to experience the world of boys, but only after having my girl first.
In real life, however, I'm almost positive I'm not going to have children at all. I LOVE kids, but loving them, and actually having and raising them, are two VERY different things. And there are a variety of reasons -- physical/health ones, emotional ones, and financial ones -- that I really do not feel I'm cut out to have kids. But that's okay; I can enjoy everyone else's! ;D

I wanted a daughter and got one. Then I wanted a boy, and I got one of them, too. I had them in the order I wanted them. I wanted a girl first so I could spoil her with all the frilly dresses and such before I had the added expense of a second child!

A girl. I would want to raise her right and teach her to be her own individual. I would want to view her as a chance to get and succeed in what I never got to do.
