One of my friends was diagnosed and I was just wanting to know if I should be worried about using the bathroom at her house or what..I don't want to sound frantic though.

HPV is a virus, the immune system can fight it off, but once you have it, it never goes away, you can be infected with more than one strain, there are over 100 different strains, four types can cause cervical cancer, some cause genital warts, some cause warts of the hands and feet. There have been non-sexual cases of HPV. You shouldn't worry about picking it up after the toilet seat! The vaccine only helps prevent four types of HPV and only two of the four that cause cervical cancer. The best way to protect yourself is if you are going to have sex, use a condom. What else do you want to know?

Apparently HPV is responsible for a cancerous virus of the cerevix. It is transmitted through sexual transmission. Twenty yrs ago, it was called dysplasia. On a scale of 1-6 this could be determined after a pap test. At that time they would do a laser cone to remove the dysplastic cells.
Today they are urging young women to get the vaccine to prevent this virus as it's now thought to be.

As fas as I am aware it is only transmitted sexually. It is a common virus that usually clears up on its own. Only every so often it can result in cervical cancer. There is a vaccine now so that is some good news. This is all I know personally.

It's contagious during any sexual contact (even via hands!)
