I just had a goodman condensor unit (the outside part of a split system) replaced. It was tripping the breaker. The unit was 17 yrs old. My AC man said it sounded like the compressor went out and sure nuf it was. When he let out some freon it smelled like burned plastic... the compressor motor was fried. He replaced it with a 14 SEER Frigidere 4 ton unit for $2800... ouch! Good luck.

you have a project with the compressor or fan motor. turn the breaker off. in case you do no longer you will truthfully do greater harm. you ought to by no ability replace a breaker with an more advantageous amperage breaker. you ought to reason a fireplace. A 40 amp circuit makes use of 8 gage cord and a 50 makes use of 6. on account which you have an electric project and the unit isn't functioning, you danger the potential for over loading the line and melting the wiring or maybe inflicting a fireplace. call a provider technician and positioned a sparkling 40 amp breaker in selection to the only you bumped off.

You probably are pulling too many amps for the breaker. Your air conditioner is probably using 20 amps and the breaker is probably 15 amps. Otherwise you've got an electrical problem either in the line or a bad breaker. The air conditioner should tell you how many amps it uses and it should be on your breaker as well.

What is happening is your compressor is trying to start under a pressure load. This occurs when the unit shuts down by the thermostat and insufficient time for the pressure to equate and lower overall particularly what the compressor sees , like 5 minutes, hasnt passed and the thermostat is again calling for cooling and the unit responds by attempting to start
A device to rid of this problem, which is very common, is sold and its basically a time delay switch that times out for a preset time after the unit has shut down and not allowing the unit to attempt to start until that preset time has lapsed and the pressure within has equaled out, and no high pressure load is on the compressor.
Go to your local HVAC supply house and they sell these time delay devices and you can install it yourself with the enclosed instructions. The cost is about $25 for the device.

Sounds like the compressor is going. If unit is old this is probably the problem. If unit is fairly new breaker may be defective or improperly sized.

the circuit that it is on won't handle it you will need to call a good electrician to make a circuit just for the unit, but first make sure that the only thing on that circuit is the air conditioner
