Is anyone else as delighted as I am that the Yankees are in 4th place, 17 1/2 games out, and have lost 5 in a row? If this keeps up, they'll be mathematically eliminated by the All-Star break. Sweet!

OK, sorry about the stats, but my morning paper (in New Hampshire) said 17 1/2. Could easily have been a typo. Still, 13 1/2 out is hardly respectable.

I especially love the fact the NYYs have turned into a bigger bunch of choke artists than the Atlanta Braves. And that monumental choke of 2004? Losing four in a row to the Red Sox, after leading by three games? I couldn't stop laughing for days. It was just too cool.
So, OK, they may make the playoffs, but we know what happens next.
The Yankees fans who answered just prove what I've always thought: Yankees fans are a pretty humorless bunch, and think they win because they're supposed to, like it's some sort of divine right.
And in closing: I was an Indians fan when it wasn't so easy to be, back in the days when they were never better than 4th for decades at a time. It's easy to be a fan of a team that always wins; it's also easy to despise a team which always wins, and becomes arrogant and complacent because of repeated success. Maybe it's time for the Yankees and their fans to learn a little humility.
