My 11 week old son can sit for a few seconds without support. Is it okay to encourage this or is he too young and will it harm him in anyway?

I also wanted to add that my son has been rolling over since 6 weeks and has held has been able to do mini pushups (holding arms, head, and neck while on tummy) since about 4 weeks...

Like I said in an earlier post, watch him and stay with him, while he's doing this. My mom said its good to let them do things and even struggle a little bit. As long as you're right there, go ahead. If he acts uncomfortable or fusses, though, I would let him have a break. He sounds like a strong little guy. :)

Newborns are born with one among those reflexes that final for a pair months than disappear. The status which you're noticing at the same time with your daughter is somewhat age perfect and is noted as a beneficial help Reflex. It lasts until approximately 2-4 months and than will in all probability disappear until after 6 months. some babies hate their tummy time and could spend maximum of it fussing or crying whilst others are somewhat fascinated in looking out what they could do in this place. progression in each and each infant is unique so it is not uncomplicated to truly say if a infant is forward or at the back of with the aid of fact the variety of standard is very extensive. i'm mom to 4 plus grandma to a million and have been a newborn care supply for 22 years. each and every from time to time babies are completely content fabric to lie nevertheless and be snuggled whilst others are movers and shakers. Your infant falls into the mover and shaker class. It sounds like your infant is progressing very properly in an age perfect way.

I recommend getting a Bumbo seat to help him learn how to sit. But definitely don't do it if he doesn't have full control of his head/neck yet. At 11 weeks, he may have control but he also may not.

Personally, though, I'd be focusing more on tummy time right now. I know an 8 month old who can sit like a champ but still can't roll over. Back when we were kids, we got plenty of tummy time because our parents were told to let us sleep on our bellies. Nowadays, we're told to put babies on their backs to sleep, so tummy time during the day is extra important.

I would not, because it may do something to his legs. My girls were preemies and they had a physical therapist up until they were 3, and he didnt want me to encourage them to sit until they were about 4-5 months. (gestational Age, not preemie age)

You're going to give him slipped disc problems and other back problems I can't think of right now.

Support baby's head and neck continually until he is 3 months old, support his back until he is six months old. Don't make him walk until he is nearly a year old.

Or you will have a child with a twisted back, screwball neck and bow legs.
